The First Book in the Harry Potter Series

With the Harry Potter series coming to an end, here is a chance to relive the story of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in a condensed version.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone begins by explaining how Harry became an orphan and eventually ended up living with the Dursleys, his non-magical, or Muggle, relatives. Non-magical people are called Muggle in the Harry Potter series.

The evil wizard Lord Voldemort killed Harry Potter's parents, James and Lily Potter, while Harry was still a baby. Lord Voldemort also tried to kill an infant Harry Potter with a killing curse. The curse turned back onto Lord Voldemort, killing him instead of Harry.

As a result of the curse, however, Harry was left with a scar of a lightning bolt on his forehead. Once Harry Potter becomes an orphan, he is dropped off at the home of the Dursleys by Professor Dumbledore and Professor McGonagall.

The Dursleys, not wanting Harry to know about his magical background, hide him in a cupboard under the stairway for eleven years of his life. The Dursleys and Harry Potter move to a place in the middle of the ocean because the Dursleys are afraid of all of the letters they are receiving for Harry.

On Harry Potter's birthday, Hagrid, a large man who is a major character in the Harry Potter series, visits the shack. For the first time, Harry actually reads one of the letters he has received. The letter invites him to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry to study magic.

Harry Potter quickly discovers that he is famous in the world of wizardry and heads to Hogwarts immediately. On his way to Hogwarts, Harry becomes friends with Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, who live with Harry in the Gryffindor House.

Once at Hogwarts, Harry Potter is asked to join the Quidditch team for the Gryffindor House. On Halloween at Hogwarts, a troll enters the castle. Harry Potter and his friend Ron are able to trap the troll in the girls' bathroom, but Hermione is also in the bathroom.

Harry and Ron fight the troll to save Hermione, making the three even better friends. At Harry Potter's first Quidditch match, he struggles with his broom, which has been possessed by Severus Snape.

Harry and his friends also believe that Snape wants to steal the Sorcerer's Stone and bring Lord Voldemort back. Harry Potter and a few other students are given detention for being caught out late one night.

While serving detention, Harry's scar burns as he watches someone drink the blood of a unicorn. A centaur named Firenze tells Harry that the man is Voldemort, and that he is drinking the blood of a unicorn because it is similar to the Elixir of Life.

Harry and his friends soon find out that Hagrid told someone how to get to the Sorcerer's Stone, while he was drunk. The friends know the Sorcerer's Stone is going to be stolen, so they immediately go to the chamber.

Once Harry Potter gets inside, he discovers that Lord Voldemort is stealing it through the body of Quirrell, who he has possessed. Harry suffers because he is so close to Lord Voldemort and must be saved by Dumbledore. Quirrell dies as a result of the possession of Voldemort.

Dumbledore then tells Harry Potter about his family, explaining that Harry has protection from Voldemort's deadly spells because Harry's mother died to protect Harry. The Sorcerer's Stone is also destroyed to stop Voldemort from trying to steal it again.
