Summer 2009 Activities and Events in Indiana, Pennsylvania

In every small town community there are a local happenings and events, which is also the case within Indiana, Pennsylvania. We will take a brief tour of things that are occurring now through June 2009.

First we feature Friday Flicks held at the Indiana Free Library, located on 845 Philadelphia Street. They offer free admission for viewing 1930's to 1950's films every Friday throughout the summer at noon, starting on May 22, 2009. Another fun family event that is helpful to our furry friends is the Indiana County Humane Society's 8th Animal Flea Market. This event is held throughout the weekend of June 5, June 6, and June 7, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Call Kathie for more information on acceptable donations (which are available to drop off June 1st- 3rd from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Fairgrounds Sportsmen Building) at 724-349-7847. All proceeds go to help the Humane Society.

Next we move onto Afternoon Bingo being held at the Indiana Social Center, located on 1001 Oak Street. Admission is free but they offer refreshments for sale on June 13, 2009. This event starts at 2 p.m. and ends at 4 p.m. For more information please call Eileen at 724-465-2697.

One way to cool down is at the YMCA Neon Nights being held at Mack Park Pool starting on June 12, 2009 from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. This event will be held every second and fourth Friday of every month until the end of the summer. Glow sticks and neon necklaces will be provided at the door. Entry fee is $1.00 for Mack Pool Members and $3.00 for Future/Non-members. For more information on this event please call 724-463-9622.

Enjoy a little history lesson at the Jimmy Stewart Airport Festival, located on 398 Airport Road. Beginning on Saturday June 13 and ending on Sunday June 14th. World War 2 re-enactments, military aircraft displays, Aerial Display, free flights for youth (ages 8-17), and an Army Parachute Demonstration (all weather permitting), as well as an All You Can Eat Pancake Breakfast both days from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m, are some of the activities held within. Parking and admission for free, as well as food vendors (for a fee) will be available. For more information please call 724-463-3883.
