Albuquerque Summerfest:
Summerfest has been a traditional weekend event of fun for entire Albuquerque families for years. It's a free event to attend, however you must pay for any extras you wish to purchase such as merchandise or food. Every Saturday night all summer long, Albuquerque hosts free concerts downtown at the Civic Plaza. Crowds gather in the hundreds to these themed events. Every weekend is a different theme or culture with corresponding and free, live music on stage.
As you walk around Summerfest you'll find other things to do such as face painting for the kids, henna tattoos for all ages and artisan jewelry and other art for purchase. Most local foods are available for sale from Navajo tacos to sandia agua fresca. What I've noticed is the prices of food have gone up dramatically over the years. If you want authentic New Mexican food then by all means, come with your wallet prepared. However, you might want to bring along your own food, snacks, or even water for the event to save some cash.

Zoo Music Concert Series
The Zoo Music Concert Series are fun for the whole family. The adults tend to enjoy the music while the kids are psyched about getting to see the animals after hours. The concerts take place in the zoo park, right in the middle of some large and exciting animals. You can take the kids to see the gorillas, lions or seals, then sit down and have a dinner picnic on the grass while watching the live music perform. The café is open at this time if you prefer to purchase your meal or some ice cream for dessert. Concerts take place every Friday from 7-9 with gates opening at 6pm. The cost is $8 for adults and $4 for kids. Albuquerque Zoo members can get in for half price.

Raft down the Río Grande River:
The annual Great Race down the Rio Grande river takes place this year on May 30th. Take your boats, canoes, and rafts to the Rio Grande intersecting with Alameda Blvd. As teams, you'll race down to the South Diversion channel. It's a lot of fun and only $10/person but just remember to take water, snacks and sun block! You can register at most public pools. Their website and more info can be found here:
