Drake - Thank Me Later (June 15)
Drake's first studio release, Thank Me Later, is set to dominate the charts throughout Summer 2010. Similar to his highly-received mixtape So Far Gone, Drake incorporates his light, downbeat production and beats with personal rapping about his rise to fame, critics, love, and his life. Thank Me Later includes numerous samples, features, and verses from other artists, perfectly complementing the fairly relaxed rapping style of Drake. Singles "Over", "Find Your Love", and "Miss Me" have all charted high and are receiving strong radio airplay. Look for Drake's debut release to make a huge splash throughout Summer 2010 and into 2011.
Eminem - Recovery (June 22)
Recovery, Eminem's seventh studio album was originally set to be titled Relapse 2, but the project was cancelled. Eminem believed that Recovery was just composed of "rap records" and decided that he needed to return to his roots and write a record that is more emotionally driven. Recovery includes no skits and brings back Eminem's old style of rapping (no accent this time!). In fact, the first single "Not Afraid", involves Eminem dissing Recovery and the type of music he was producing. Recovery will involve more personal and emotional subject matter, with Eminem talking about his post-drugs life and dealing with the loss of his best friend Proof. Be sure to check out this record.
The Gaslight Anthem - American Slang (June 15)
The third studio release from The Gaslight Anthem, American Slang, will bring back the same the American rock and roll sound that appeared on their past two albums. Frontman Brian Fallon has stated that the songwriting on the new album is different than on the band's previous efforts, with a bigger sound and deeper subject matter. The Gaslight Anthem is set to produce one of their biggest releases of all time and hope to possibly break onto the mainstream.
Kid Cudi - Man On the Moon II: The Legend of Mr. Rager (September 14)
Kid Cudi's sophomore release, Man on the Moon II: The Legend of Mr. Rager, is set to be a follow up to Cudi's debut release, Man on the Moon: The End of Day, and will feature the likes of Chip Tha Ripper, Ratatat, Cage, Pharell, Snoop Dogg, and Kanye West. Kid Cudi has stated that the album will be more personal to him and that "Man On The Moon II is dark by nature and instead of bringing you into my dreams like my first album, I'm bringing you into my reality, good and bad. It will explain more of who I am as well as pushing the envelope musically." The first single "REVOFEV(Revolution of Evolution)" highlights the darker tone of the album, but also brings back the fun and party that is Kid Cudi. Look out for this late summer release.
