Summer is upon us and parents, far and wide, are looking for educational and fun options for their kids.

Whether you're looking for things kids can do that stimulate the mind or things that allow them to relax and just be a kid, Houston has plenty to offer.

If your child is showing an affinity for computers or you just want them to get ahead of the next school semester, there are a number of activities that focus on technology

Internal Drive Computer Camp

The University of Houston(UH) is offering a wide array of specialized computer camps that focus on different computer skills. Whether your kids are into game design, graphic arts or programming, the University of Houston probably has a camp with them in mind. Hurry the camps are filling up fast. If you register by May 1, 2008 you can save $50.00.

The camps are by Internal Drive, Inc.(iD) They offer a variety of Technology camps through out the United States. Their instructors are handpicked and course size is small to give kids specialized attention.

Wonder Space Computer and Technology Camp

Wonder Space was founded in Houston, Texas in 2002 by two recent Rice University graduates. Josefa Marquez and Emmie Chang realized that kids needed exposure to technology before entering college. The created the Wonder Space Technology camps to give kids that much needed exposure in a fun environment. Through a program called Leadership Rice the women received their initial funding . Wonder Space now has locations in Houston, Austin, Dallas and Washington, D.C..

Wonder Space offers a variety of courses including game design, special effects, animation and programming.

Wonder Space Computer and Technology Summer Camps

Digital Media Academy

The closest access to Digital Media Academy's(DMA) summer course is the University of Texas at Austin. But they offer such a great program that if you happen to be live in Austin or plan to spend some time there this summer, then please check out Digital Media Academy. They offer a broad array of courses for children 7-13 and teens 13 to over 18 as well as Pro Courses for adults interested in digital media. In addition to offering courses at some of the U.S.'s most prestigious universities, they also offer a Digital Filmmaking course at sea. There are four 7-day cruises to choose from. Robot Discovery Camps at University of Houston

Kids explore the facets of robot technology in two one week sessions at University of Houston's Central Campus. The courses included Early Robotics for kids aged 7-11 and NXT(Mindstorm) for ages 10-14. The Day camp is an off shot of UH's Coordination of Robotic's Education(CORE). CORE was founded to promote children's interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics(STEM) disciplines and careers.

NASA Space City Houston Summer Space Camp

Registration for NASA's Space camp at Johnson Space Center is now open. They offer day camps and a week long Space Adventure. This years Space Adventure is called "Mission to Mars". Kids have a variety of courses to choose from. Your kids can experience Astronaut Training or make like a CSI on the Moon. The courses are broken out by children's age.
