Hobby Camps
Hobby camps are great substitutes for the Y. What makes these camps so great is that they are focused on exactly what your child is interested in. What you want to do first is find out what exactly your child likes to do. There are places all around the United States that focus on particular hobbies. For example, If your child loves to play baseball, then there are certain camps that just focuses on making your son the best baseball player that he can be. Focusing on growing your kids talent during the summer is one of the best things you can do for him. The best place to start looking for these camps is the Internet. Type in the particular hobby in the search engine and put the word camp behind it, and you should get a bunch a camps you can start with.
Karate Camps
The YMCA is a place where you can do karate, but that is not their main focus. They usually segment that time to an hour or so and they mainly just do it once or twice a week. I suggest that you enroll your kids in a karate camp. Karate camps are camps for kids that would like to learn the martial arts and they usually do it over a three month basis. The great thing about karate camps is that they usually keep your kids all day and your kids are not just sitting around watching TV. Karate camps are very physical, in which your kids will be learning the martial arts until it is time for them to leave. The membership cost about as much as the Y, but your children will be in better shape.
Summer Church Programs
The Last alternative that I would like to discuss are summer church programs. Youth church leaders usually put on a summer program for children for parents who are at work all the day. These programs are somewhat like the YMCA, except that most of the things that will tought would be focused around a Christian Perspective. Summer church programs are also great because the fees can be less expensive for those that are on a tight budget. To find one of these programs start with your local church, and if they don't offer anything then take a look a surrounding churches. This would be a great alternative to the YMCA
Summer has always been a wonderful time for the YMCA, but if that is not on your list for the summer, try some of these other alternatives.
