Summer time is always a big time for movies. The biggest and the best are released to bring in the largest amount of sales possible and this summer is no exception with movies such as Pirates of the Caribbean on Stranger Tides and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows Part two. I don't think that movie theaters will have too much trouble bringing in the bucks with either of these two movies on their play-list but also this summer you have the sequel to Disney Pixar Cars and another installation of Transformers due in theaters in July. You will also be in no short supply of superhero movies this summer with Xmen First Class, The Green Lantern, and Captain America. Then you have to have your family classics Winne-the-Pooh,Smurfs and Mr. Poppers Penguins. I'm seriously looking forward to seeing all of them this summer especially the new Harry Potter and Pirates of the Caribbean.
Pirates of The Caribbean on Stranger Tides opened Memorial Day weekend and grossed $90 million. Disney wanted a different story with different characters for this edition of Captain Jack Sparrow's adventures. Jack Sparrow is still played by Johnny Depp and he and Captain Barbossa played by Geoffery Rush go in search for the fountain of youth. Sparrow is confronted with a former lady friend of his that talks them into searching for the fountain. She is played by Penelope Cruz. As the three go in search of the fountain they run into the infamous Blackbeard the Pirate played by Ian Mcshane. You know that there adventure must be action packed Disney wouldn't do it any other way. I can't wait to see this movie either in theaters or in the comfort of my own home Disney never disappoints.
Xmen First Class is a flashback to the very beginning of Xmen and how Professor X and Magneto went from friends to foe. James McAvoy plays the young Xavier and Micheal Fassbender plays Erik Lehnsherr otherwise know as Magneto. Together the two young men form a group of super humans/mutants which consist of Raven/Mystique play by Jennifer Lawrence and Sebastian Shaw who is played by Kevin Bacon. As time goes on a rift develops between the two friends and leads to the eternal war between Xavier and the Xmen and Magneto and his team that we are so familiar with in the other movies. I personally love all the Xmen movies and have each one in my dvd collection and I'm sure by the trailers that this one will be no exception. Xmen First Class is due to be released in theaters on June 3, 2011.
The Green Lantern is a movie based on the comic book character by the same name published by DC comics. Ryan Reynolds plays Hal Jordan a test pilot that is given this strange mystical green ring which turns him into the Green Lantern. As the Green Lantern, Jordan is given powers and a membership into an intergalactic squadron that is in-charge of keeping the universe at peace. I have never heard of the Green Lantern but love the super hero movies and the trailer for the movie looks very interesting. I would love to find out the story behind the Green Lantern.
If you have never heard of the children's story Mr. Poppers Penguins you need to see this modernized tale of a business man, Tom Popper, played by Jim Carrey. Popper inherits six penguins from his father who was spending time in Antarctica. Mr. Poppers life is transformed immediately on how he is going to get rid of these penguins but they grow on him and his apartment is turned into the perfect habitat for penguins, a winter wonderland. I can't wait to see this movie Jim Carrey is one of my all time favorite actors. Online I have read posts from people that are upset that they took the children's story and turned it into mockery of the original story. I see it this way it is a modernized version of the story of Mr. Popper and his penguins writers and directors altered the story to make it entertaining and more relevant today's society. Mr. Poppers Penguins will be released in theaters on June 17, 2011.
Disney Pixar might win big once again with the sequel to the very popular Cars movie with Cars 2. This time Lightening McQueen is inviting his buddy Mater to go overseas with him to the world grand prix. Mater accepts and they both embark on the journey of a lifetime. The coolest thing I like about this movie is how Disney and Pixar have characters based on real drivers using the real driver to voice the character such as Jeff Gorvette and Darrell Cartrip played by guess who? Jeff Gordon and Darrell Waltrip, real life NASCAR drivers. Another twist to this story is that British intelligence character Finn McMissle played by Micheal Caine accuse Mater of being a US spy. This turns this movie into an action movie for kids. I would say a cross between the Fast and the Furious and XXX. My other favorite part about this movie is the sequel has the same cast as the first Owen Wilson is the voice of Lightening McQueen and Larry the Cable Guy is the voice of Mater. Cars 2 is due in theaters June 24, 2011.
Transformer Dark Moon is due out in theaters on June 29. The Autobots find out that there is Cybertonian spacecraft hidden on the moon and they must get to it before the Decepticons get to it. The trailer for this movie is incredibly action packed and Shia LaBeouf still plays Sam Witwicky. I find it very important for a sequel to use the same main characters and there actors. Unfortunately besides the summary that I read on Imbd.com I couldn't get a real good understanding of the storyline from the movie trailer but the two previous Transformers movies were excellent so I'm sure that this one will be worth watching.
Harry Potter theDeathly Hollows Part 2 the much anticipated final installation of the Harry Potter series is due in theaters July 15 th and I can't wait to see how Hollywood portrays the confrontation that every Harry Potter fan has been waiting to see. The story continues with Ron, Herimione and Harry search for Voldemort's horcruxes. Voldemort and Harry will meet in the battle that will result in one of them dieing, we all have our fingers crossed that Harry will be victorious.
Winnie-the-Pooh is about Pooh and all his friends in the Hundred acre wood. Pooh sets out in search of honey when he misreads a note written by his close friend Christopher Robin and what kind of obstacles is Pooh going to run into on his search for honey. Winnie-the-Pooh is always a good choice for children I know I won't be taking mine to the theater because they are too young but I will definitely be looking forward to seeing this movie in the comfort of my own home with my two year old and ten month old right beside me.
Captain America is based on a Marvel comic book character by the same name. Steve Rogers wanted to go into the military more than anything but he is deemed unfit so he volunteers for a top secret project that would turn him into a super soldier. He becomes Captain America a superhero that defends what is important to America. One familiar face you will see in this movie is Tommy Lee Jones who plays Colonel Chester Phillips. I'll say it once and I'll say it again I love superhero movies and it nice to hear a new story rather than another edition to a story we already know like Batman or Spiderman. You can see Captain America in theaters July 22.
Who doesn't love the Smurfs I was excited at the mere fact that they were going to make a movie about the Smurfs. The evil wizard Gargamel played by Hank Azaria, chases the Smurfs from their cartoon world to our world landing them in the big apple, New York City. Throughout the movie they are trying to find their way back home. The Smurfs are played by actors such as Jeff Foxworthy, George Lopez and Katy Perry. You can see The Smurfs in theaters July 29.
So there it is my recommendations of ten summer movies that you must see and I hope to see them all at one time or another. All the information in this article can be found at IMDb.com.
