If your looking forward to a rewarding, fun, and potentially lucrative experience this summer then look no farther: summer camp jobs are the way to go. In Canada, and more specifically Alberta, there are plenty of summer camp jobs available- everything from camp counselors to lifeguards and yoga instructors. Want to know where to find these jobs, or not sure if you have the right requirements? Read on to get the goods.

Local Y.M.C.A's (www.ymca.ca) are great places to get a summer camp job as there are often three or four locations in a city, and almost all are located near bus or transit routes. In Edmonton (Alberta's capital city), Y.M.C.A camp counselors work from June 22-Aug 22, and the salary range is between $410- $480 per week. The qualifications to become a camp counselor at the Y.M.C.A include current CPR and First Aid, a current, clear child welfare check and a police security clearance which can be purchased from most R.C.M.P stations with little delay. Experience that will help you to get a summer camp job at the Y.M.C.A include being a post-secondary student in Recreation, Physical Education, or Education and good communication skills. Currently, there are over 130 summer camp jobs available at the Y.M.C.A in Edmonton.

For those who want to get out of the daily grind of city life for the summer, the center for outdoor education (www.coe.ca) is a god send. Nestled a short distance from a small Albertan hamlet called Nordegg, the COE operates out of Sheiling Mountain Lodge (a cedar bungalow surrounded by lush forest and mountain views) and hosts over twelve different summer adventure camps. Enjoy Kayaking, rock climbing, or mountaineering? CEO is the place to fulfill your industrious spirit and get paid for doing it. However, unless you have extensive experience, you will have to attend a two month training session assisting the current instructors. Still, there are some major perks involved. Once hired, any certification courses you are interested in taking (i.e.://swift water rescue) are subsidized, and the camp is located just a short walk from national parks- far, far away from the city. It's a sweet opportunity, but you have to be mentally and physically up for it. Jobs fill up fast, so getting your application in by March 1st is vital to getting a summer camp job. Other mandatory requirements are a valid drivers license, a current 40 hour first aid certificate and you must be at least 18 years of age.

These are just two different opportunities out of hundreds of available summer camp jobs in Alberta.
