Many camps are looking for counselors of course, but there are also quite a few different styles of work that you can do while working for a summer camp job in California. Here are just a few, to help you get started.
Position #1: Summer Camp Director

MHS Summer Camp is a fun and educational daycamp program serving students ages 3 through 8.
This position is a 7-week seasonal position. Training week: June 16th - 20th (Hours will be approx. 9:00 - 3:00 for Training Week).
The Summer Camp runs June 23rd - Aug 1st (Hours during Camp will be M - F 8:15am - 5:30pm) EXCEPT for July 4th (camp is closed).
Candidates should have a minimum of 12 ECE units (including Administration of Early Childhood Programs)and at least 2 years experience in administration of a state-licensed daycare facility or preschool. Ability to multi-task and current CPR certification are a must, as well as willingness to be fingerprinted by CA Dept of Justice if hired.
Candidates should have a good knowledge of Word and Excel, as well as experience with database management programs (Admin Plus), and of course, patience with small children!
Position #2: Counselors, Internships, Leaders, Directors, Specialists, Support Staff
Location: Boulder Creek, near Santa Cruz

Camping Unlimited is a beautiful summer camp for children and adults with disabilities in California. This is a live-in position, summer, from June 1 to August 10.
Position #3: Summer Camp Recreation Leader

Position #4: Camp Counselor/ Field Staff

Wellspring Camps are the leading therapeutic weight loss programs for overweight children and young adults. Actively seeking undergraduate/graduate students in psychology, social work, nutrition, sports science and/or outdoor leadership/ recreation management willing to work in an outdoor field and traditional camp setting, and who enjoy working with children and with a diverse staff. All candidates must be over 21 yrs old, and have a clean driving record. Camp Counselors must be trained in basic first aid/CPR. Some positions require WFR for WFA certifications.
Position #5: Wilderness Leader

Qualifications: All wilderness leaders must be 21+ with current lifeguard certification (LGT) and Wilderness First Aid or Wilderness First Responder certification (WFA/WFR) as well as a safe driving record. Camp Tawonga will reimburse costs of obtaining necessary certifications if you do not already possess them. Experience with children and prior experience backpacking are essential. Experience with rock climbing/belaying, natural history, environmental education, and Judaic knowledge are helpful.
