Kids look forward to summer yet you often hear them complaining of the summertime boredom blues. I am a firm believer that it's OK for your child to be bored sometimes but don't let your child be bored the entire summer. Send them to a summer camp. There are several summer camps in Bakersfield that are for good for various ages. Summer Camps allow them to learn new skills, make new friends and most importantly, get a chance to do something fun to tell their friends about when school returns. This article will go over a few of the summer camps available for kids in the Bakersfield area.

Summer Camps for Kids in Bakersfield, California #1: KernCountyMuseum

The Kern County Museum hosts several summer camps. They are being held at the Lori Brock Children's Discovery Center which is on the grounds of the museum. They have a summer camp every week (which the exception of July 5th through 9th) and each one has a different theme. Some of the themes are School's Out for the Summer, CSI, You Can Build It, Chemistry is Cool, Superhero Science, A Space Odyssey, etc. You can choose to have your child their half day or full day. The price for half days are $115 dollars per week ($90 if you're a member of the museum) and full day prices are $200 a session with members being $160 dollars a session. The price includes a t-shirt, materials, water and snacks. Children 5-7 and 8-11 can attend the camp. Summer Camps for Kids in Bakersfield, California #2: CSUB All Sports Camp

California State University Bakersfield is having their All Sports Camp this summer June 14th through June 18th. There are three camps broken up into the following age groups: 3-4 (Pee Wee Camp), 5-14 (Half Day Camp) and 7-14 (Full Day Camp). Pee Wee Camp is $145 dollars, half day is $165 dollars and $185 for full day. Children will be placed in groups and learn various sports. On the last day of camp is a mini-Olympic tournament that the kids can complete in and show off their newly learned skills. If your child stays for full day, they need to bring their own lunch or purchase a lunch from the college cafeteria. Each camper receives a t-shirt and a certificate.

Summer Camps for Kids in Bakersfield, California #3: Art Camp

Bakersfield Museum of Art is hosting an art camp for those little Picassos in training. The camp is for ages 7-12 (your child attends alone) and 3-6 (you attend the class with your child). Older kids will about drawing, sculpture, painting and about art history by doing art projects. Kids will go to three one hour classes in a day with two breaks in between. Snacks are not provided but you can have your child bring their own. The classes run from June to August and each class is one week long. One week is $90 dollars, 2 weeks is $150, three weeks is $210 and four weeks is $245 dollars. If you're a member of the museum you can receive a slightly discounted price.
