Summer Camps in New York

Brandi Thornsberry
Kid's will be out for Summer break soon. Do you know where you will be sending them for their next summer camp? If your located in New York, I have found some great camps for your children to attend this summer.

Camp Shane Weight Loss and Fitness Camp
Ferndale, New York
845-292-4644

Most kids cringe at the thought of the sole called fat camp. This is unlike most weight loss camps though. They do not place your children on a very strict diet and only enforce exercise. This camp is a place where your child will have fun and lose weight at the same time. After their visit they will be begging you to let them go again next year.

They still get to enjoy their food while they are away at camp. They are taught nutrition, dieting, cooking and portion control. You can still eat some of the foods you love, they are just taught to do this in moderation. They offer a step by step program called CBT. This will give your child the tools they need for long term success. They will learn how to cook all the foods that are served there and they are even able to bring recipes home even for cookies.

They offer many activities for your child to do. Most of the time they have so much fun they don't even realize they are losing weight at the same time. Things like having a paintball war, camping, horseback riding or acting like Rambo are some of the things your child will be involved in. Pottery and ceramics, paints, wood shop, jewelry making, tie dieing, leather crafts and candle making are some of the down time activities.

Water activities have been proven time and time again as a great weight loss tool. They have skiing, mini speed boating, larger speed boating, rowing, big tube rafting, banana boat rides, wake boarding and knee-boarding are the all time favorites of the campers. They enjoy being out on the water and they are losing weight and becoming more healthy by the minute.

Your child will learn many things here along with all the fun they will have. This is one of the top weight loss camps in the world.

The Ranch Camp- Lake Placid Academy
Lake Clear, New York
518-891-5684

Another great camp to send your child to is The Ranch Camp. Your child will stay in a supervised Bunkhouse or a dormitory style living house. They will enjoy great buffet style food and once a week the chuckwagon BBQ comes and offers great food , fun and lots of entertainment.

Your children's mornings will being with early morning feedings and rounding up the horses. This is to get them prepared for your fun morning. They will go eat breakfast and come back to the horse for their daily lessons. Your child will come home a pro rider after all is said and done. They will learn riding, jumping and practice for the drill team at the end of the course. They will also learn how to improve self confidence and all the daily chores that are required to managing your own horse.

Some other activities include: hiking, farm chores, basketball, swimming, drama and dance, arts and crafts and campfire fun. Every evening they will gather around the camp fire and sing songs, tell stories or just relaxing and toasting marshmallows.

Camp Ramaquois
Pomona, New York
845-354-1600

A very large camp with 52 buildings are located in Camp Ramaquois. They have their very own lake that is 5 acres long. The lake resource are bumper boats, water bikes, paddle boards, 2 bongo water trampolines, inner tubes, fountain sprays, kayaks and is packed full with professional lifeguards.

If you have a sports fan then they will love the 8 softball fields, 6 tennis courts, 3 basketball courts, 2 hockey rinks, 3 soccer fields, 4 volleyball courts, 2 wiffle ball courts, 4 pickle ball courts and 2 bonzo ball walls. There is also a state of the art archery, the Rama Pit camp fire site, Gymnastics Athletics pavilion and gymnastics equipment including pommel horses, uneven bars and a tumble track. They also have a vertical reality climbing tower which children love. If they can make it to the top they will be talking about it for weeks.

There are separate camp areas for older boys and girls available also. On the girls side there is powder puff football, cheer competitions, and group riddles. On the boys side there is softball leagues and pride competitions. They also offer many other age appropriate areas for younger and older children.
