The Memphis area will offer an abundant number of summer camps designed to stimulate your child's imagination and develop social skills. If you are looking for camps that are not only fun, but, will give your child technical skills that will prepare him/her to succeed in this tech-driven society. This article examines just a few of these summer computer camps, which offer hands-on experiences in web design, video game programming, robotics, computer animation and much more.

Harding Academy's Learning Enrichment Advantage Program offers a wide variety of summer camps for grades K- 6th grade. Harding endeavors to enhance children's academic and special skills. There are two camps dedicated to computer usage: Bits, Bytes & Bots: Animated Movie Making & Kidz Keyboarding Computer. Costs start at $65.00. Memphis Area Community Centers will offer Computer Camps at various locations. The camps will focus on technology education and activities that stimulate learning, including claymation, robotic and more for ages 5 - 14. Costs of this camp is $140. Memphis Public Library & Information Center and the Society will offer a Free Summer Computer Tech Camp at the Central Library, located at 3030 Poplar. This computer camp is designed for ages 13 - 15. Children will have the opportunity to watch demonstrations of state-of-the-art technical gadgets. Kids In Technology is located at 314 Auction in Memphis. Kids In Technology is dedicated to supplying a technical education to children from K - 12, regardless of their ability to pay. KIT, also gives children the opportunity to build their own computer, and works with universities and colleges to give children a pre-college experience. Outside Memphis

Fastrackids of Cordova is located at 7990 Trinity Place, Suite 119. The camp offers exploration of technology that we use in everyday life. The camp is geared to ages 4 - 8 years. Costs start at $150.00 per week. For more information about Session dates and times call 901-507-9260

St. Benedict at Auburndale High School is located at 8250 Varnavas in Cordova. St. Benedict will offer a 4 day morning camp for ages 6 - 10. The camp will concentrate on games, desktop publishing, keyboarding and graphic arts. Costs is $60.

Bits, Bytes and Bots Computer Adventures offers morning and afternoon week-long programs in robotics engineering, stop-motion animated movie making, computer video game creation, Anime, & 3D game design at two locations (Cordova, TN and Southaven, MS) near Memphis. ID Tech offers several courses with a wide range of levels for ages 7 - 18 at over 60 universities throughout the United States. You can choose from a weekend program, starting at $325 or week long academic programs starting at $700 - $800. Both experiences include room and board, meals, campus activities and adult supervision. If you register your child with a $200 deposit before 1/31/2009, you will receive $75 off the total package. Tate's Day Camp offers a number of themed camp adventures, which include two in computer exploration and web design. Both offer a computer lab setting where children will gain experiences from basic use of computers to how-to build their own web page. Tuition starts at $258. There is a non-refundable registration fee, which is not applied to the overall tuition. Tate's Day Camp is located in Knoxville, Tennessee. Request more information.

Webb School of Knoxville offers a wide variety of specialty camps for children of different age groups and levels. Among those camps offered in 2008 was Lego robotics where children were taught how to build and program robotic toys. Costs of this camp was $210. The Webb School does not offer room and board, however, fees do include lunch. Children must be picked up at 2:00 pm. The 2009 list of camps will not be available until February. There is a $50 non-refundable deposit; not applied to camp cost.
