If you are anticipating the perennial sounds of "I'm bored" ringing through your house this summer, you might consider sending your kids off to day camp. Day camps allow kids the opportunity to explore and meet new friends, in a fairly safe environment, and still return home for dinner. It is an excellent way for them to have something to do, and for you to be able to actually get things done. If you live in the Salt Lake City, Utah area, here are a few day camps that can provide your children with plenty of learning and fun.

Utah's Hogle Zoo

What could be more fun than a day camp at a zoo? Utah's largest zoo is a fairly nice zoo, and is kid friendly year round. Summer day camps cater to children in grades one through four. Youth Rock Climbing Camp

This camp takes place at The Front. Youth Rock Climbing Camp is designed to offer classes of various levels to youth aged five to sixteen. Each camp runs for five days. You can choose either the morning class (9am to 1 pm - lunch provided) or the afternoon class (2pm to 6pm - snack included). Tuition for the camp includes food, equipment, and instruction. SummerWorks

This day camp is a great fit for all sorts of kids. Age appropriate activities for ages 4-15 are provided in a multidisciplinary setting. The idea is for the day camp to allow children to experience a variety of hands-on learning opportunities from a variety of disciplines. Specialty classes are available that place art and science in combination with the outdoors. SummerWorks is located in Salt Lake City. You can call 801-924-2973 for information about the camp.

Hale Centre Theatre

The Hale Centre Theatre offers camps for kids aged six through eighteen. If your children have an interest in drama, musical theater, and dance, the Hale Centre offers classes and day camps. This is an excellent creative outlet for youngsters, and a great way for them to build confidence in themselves. The Hale Centre Theatre does not limit itself to summer day camps, however. Montessori Summer Adventures

This day camp features a variety of interesting activities for kids aged three through twelve. Units include an Environmental/Nature Studies unit, Spanish Immersion, and a Left Brain/Right Brain program where sciences are studied in the morning and arts in the afternoon. The camp also includes field trips and hikes. Various hours are available from 7:30 am to 6:00 pm. Explore Life! Summer Camp

This is a religious Christian summer camp that is actually located not too far south of Salt Lake in American Fork. For those who want to encourage religious activity and who want their children to learn more about Christian values during the summer. The camp features hands-on activities that are fun yet spiritually educational. The camp's focus is on helping children ages eight through twelve develop faith and character.
