Are you looking for summer day camp options for your children in the West County area of St. Louis? Tired of hearing "Mom, I'm bored," every day? Want your kids to do something more than play video games and watch tv? Here are some available options.

The St. Louis area YMCA hosts several summer day camp options. The West County Y in Chesterfield has programs including sports, chess, hip-hop, and girls only. Ages range from three to teen. Most camps are from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, but before and after camp activities are available. Campers take field trips, play games, and swim in the pool. My child attended Camp Seneca at the West County Y and had a great time all summer.

Several other YMCA facilities hold summer day camp. The Wildwood and South County branches, among others, also offer summer day camp. Some of these camps have open houses or reunions for former campers so that parents and campers can meet counselors and tour facilities. The YMCA also has scholarships available for kids who need them.

St. Louis County parks also offer day camps. Queeny Park, Afton Community Center, Kennedy Recreation Complex, and North County Recreation Complex all have activities for children ages five to twelve. Cheerleading, skateboarding, and outdoor camps are among those available. Before and after camp activities are available for parents needed extended hours.

City recreation facilities provide day camp options, too. Hazelwood and Bridgeton are two examples of these. Some religious organizations sponsor summer day camps, including the Jewish Community Center in Chesterfield.

The Magic House in Kirkwood has one-week camps for children ages four to nine. These camps include lots of hands-on activities like building water fountains and sundials. Campers get to try out birdwatching.

If you want to drive into the city for day camp, choices include the Science Center and Washington University. The Science Center offers camp for grade one all the way through high school. Kids can participate in activities like CSI: Science of the Crime and X-Prize Academy. Education can continue during the summer with Washington University's computer camp. With classes in computer programming for kids ages seven to seventeen, learning can be fun.

There are so many camp choices available you are guaranteed to find one that is right for your child. Don't listen to "Mom, I'm bored," all summer long. Enroll your child in a fun and exciting summer program.
