Summer Decorating Trends for 2011

Scott Kessman
When summer comes it is often a time when a person likes to change the look of their home and decorate it with something a little fresher and lighter. The whole decorating pitch is around everything being light, cool and breezy. It is reminiscent of a lovely sunny day with a fresh light breeze. Getting this effect into your home may need some ideas, so here are some summer decorating trends for 2011 that can be taken into consideration.

If your home has already been decorated with light colors then these are easy to work with. Where your home has a larger amount of darker coloring then this may be more challenging. Look at the dark colors you have and see is there is a lighter color you can add that will accentuate the feel of these. Perhaps if you have a dark blue this could be accentuated with light blue, ivory or white. Whatever your color scheme keep this in mind when doing your decorating.

Summer is a time when people and children are far more active. This is also a time when sofa covers can get soiled quickly. More summer decorating trends for 2011 can be the making of fresh lightweight colored covers, purchasing them already made or having them specially designed for your sofa can help make them easy to clean. Just take them off and put them in the wash to give them a fresh look again. You can always just add a light colored throw to your sofa and fresh colored covers to the pillows to give it a summer look if you find making them is not in your capabilities or your finances do not allow spending at that time.

More summer decorating trends for 2011 can be where your furniture is dark, you can add some white lace covers, light colored runners or change the tablecloth in the dining room so it gives a light summer feel. Dark drapes may be brightened by changing the valance and tie backs to a lighter color that will accentuate these. Check magazines and catalogues for different ideas.

Try adding a vase of flowers either fresh or silk to a table. Put flowers elsewhere if you feel this will lighten the atmosphere. You can also take a summer feel to your outdoor areas and add fresh summer looking covers and pillows. Bug repellent candles and lamps can add to the light of the evenings as well as being useful at this time of night.
