Summer Eating in Unity, Maine

Amanda DiBiase
Looking for a good place to dine in the mid-coast of Maine? Give the town of Unity a try. Restaurant options in the area do not disappoint - the town boasts five successful and established restaurants, ranging from pizza with a Greek twist to Chinese.

For a guilt-free lunch, try the local deli, CrossTrax. CrossTrax is considered the "locavore hub" for the area, meaning that, along with quality Boar's Head products, much of the food served is locally grown. While moderately priced with sandwich specials going for around $7, the meals come with popcorn and a drink. The venue is open Monday through Saturday from 7:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. with breakfast service at 10:30 am.

If pizza is more your style then the Unity House of Pizza, known as "UHOP", might just do the trick. With a dozen pizza options, hot and cold grinders, salads, pasta dishes and more, it's hard to go wrong. The UHOP also features a bar/café that serves specialist coffee during the day and drinks at night. While no outside seating for the restaurant is available, options exist for eating indoors or out at the nearby Triplet Park. The hours are Monday-Thursday from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm, Friday and Saturday from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm, and Sunday from 11:00 am to 9:00 pm.

Downtown is also home to what is frequently described as "the best Chinese food in a thirty mile radius". From egg rolls to the delectable General Tso's chicken, China Jade's portions are generous and well priced, as well as delicious. Take out and eat-in options are available and the service is some of the best in the area. China Jade is open from 11:30 am to 9:00 pm from Sunday until Thursday and open until 9:30 pm on Friday and Saturday.

Along with bountiful food options, the town has public beaches, a comprehensive trail system, and an unending list of attractions to visit. If you're looking for a quick snack, a sit-down meal, or just a place to grab a cup of coffee and watch the birds, the town of Unity is the perfect summer getaway.
