Summer Events in Jefferson Countym, Tennessee
June Jubilee, Scots-Irish Music Street Festival, and the Jefferson County Fair
Well, I will start with what is called the June Jubilee. This event is held each year in downtown Dandridge. For a town as small as Dandridge, turnout for this event is usually around 8,500 visitors. It is usually starts the Memorial Day weekend on Saturday. You can expect to find lots of entertainment, music, booths, food, crafts, arts, and antique shows. There is even a June Jubilee Idol and June Jubilee Gala. June Jubilee Idol is simply people performing and awards are given. The June Jubilee Gala is an all out black tie event (and I do mean "black tie"). It includes dancing and fun! The activities usually begin at 9:00 A.M. and run until 6:00 P.M. There is no admission fee, and parking is free. More information can be found at www.mainstreetdandridge.com.
Now one event you will not want to miss actually happens in September (September 26, 2009 to be exact) and is the Scots-Irish Music Street Festival. This event is also held in downtown Dandridge and was created to honor the town's earliest settlers who arrived in 1783. There will be all types of entertainment from Kelly Shipe playing the Celtic Harp and Pipes to the Knoxville Pipes and Drums. If this event is of interest to you, you may find more information at www.mainstreetdandridge.com/festival.htm. There is no admission fee.
Now there is no way I am going to leave out the Jefferson County Fair. You can expect to find entertainment galore here. There will be rides, tractor pulls, cattle shows, demolition derbies, Fairest of the Fair, and so much more I cannot mention them all. This year the fair will run from July 30 to August 8 2009, and the times are from 5:00 to 11:00 each day. Admission is $12.00 per person with children under three years of age free. Inside gate parking is $3.00. The $12.00 admission includes all the rides and entertainment. If you would like more information about the fair or a map to it, go to http://jeffersoncountyfair.com.
Now these are only three of the events that Jefferson County has to offer. However, these are the top three in my book and a lot of other people's books also.
Enjoy!
