Summer Fashion Layers

Easy Ways to Go Green for Your Family

Even though the chunky, warm, layered clothing of the frigid winter months will soon be shed to in preparation for the warm spring and summer temperatures, this "layered look" will still continue to be in the fashion spotlight. Instead of stripping off all of your summer layers, simply replace them with lighter fabrics and keep the layered look. This will allow you a fuller summer wardrobe, and the effect of summer breezes blowing through a loose over shirt may actually keep you cooler than a simple t-shirt would. Here is a basic guide on how to best rock the layered-fabrics look this summer season, keeping your wardrobe in style and your skin (relatively) comfortably cool.

First of all, invest in a couple loose, button down long sleeve shirts. While fitted stitching on these shirts will definitely result in more flattering fits for most forms, non- fitted styles of these blouses will work as well. All white versions of these button down shirts are usually the most practical and versatile for summer outfits, but blue and green alternatives are also great additions to any wardrobe. Wear these shirts (with the sleeves comfortably rolled up) on top of a tank top with a cute pair of shorts for a fashionably layered (and yet cool) summer combo. These shirts also look great over selected summer dresses, adding a wee bit of warmth to summer outfits to ward off cooler night breezes.

Another great summer layering option for women is lace jackets. Thin and cool, softly knit lace jackets can be the perfect addition to a summer dress when it's just a little too warm to wear a regularly crafted cardigan. H&M offers some lovely lace vests this summer season (for those of you who are fortunate enough to live near one of these fashion/trendy stores) and online Enly offers their own lovely takes on this summer staple. Pair one of these lacey options with a darling dress or cute shorts to keep your summer in feminine fashion.

Finally, summer scarves also provide the perfect layering options. In style this summer season, scarves made from light materials/fabrics are the perfect accessories for adding textural appeal to any spring/summer ensemble. Instead of wearing one of these in a tight, around-the-neck-knot style, try doing a loose, looping/gracing the neck approach. If you choose appropriately breezy fabrics, then these summer scarves should add a fashionable layering element without adding too much warmth to your outfit.
