Summer Festivals in Georgia

Theater, music, culture, and fun. All of these things await you in Georgia this summer. Georgia offers a number of summer festivals for every type person with all kinds of interests.

Sweet Auburn Springfest, which takes place in the Sweet Auburn district of Atlanta, is the largest Multicultural Street festival in the southern United States. Every year, between three hundred and fifty and five hundred thousand people congregate on the streets of Atlanta for this beloved festival. This year's Springfest will be held May 11 - 13. The 2007 theme is "Linking the Global Family". Music, art, film, and food deliver the message of the cultures and traditions of the global family.

Local talents take the stage with everything from jazz to bluegrass, and the festival has graduated some famous alumni, including India Arie and Raven Symone. Find out more about the festival at

If you are in Tifton, check out the Love Affair Fine Arts Festival, taking place from April 28 - May 6. Live performance and other events are scattered across Tifton at City Hall, the Tifton Museum of Arts and Heritage, Tifton Gardens, and the Tifton Theater for the Performing Arts. Art in the Park, an open-air arts market will take place in Fulwood Park May 5 - 6. Learn more here: http://www.tiftonloveaffair.org/

The Decatur Arts Festival will take place on the Square in downtown Decatur, May 3 - 26 this year. This nearly month long celebration of the arts is a community driven event, featuring visual arts, dance, film, and performances. An exhibition at the Agnes Scott College is held over the course of the event. Find out more about the Decatur Arts Festival at their website at: http://www.decaturartsalliance.org/

AthFest is a music and arts festival in downtown Athens. The festival showcases Athens area music and artists. With outdoor music stages, with the main stage located at the Athens-Clarke County Courthouse, an artists' market, and a KidsFest, it's an event for artists or those who just admire them. All seminars, stages and KidsFest are free. AthFest takes place June 20 - 24, 2007, and this year's headliners include Perpetual Groove, The Whigs, and The Drive-By Truckers. Come see why AthFest has been named Festival or Event of the Year by the Georgia Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Cordele Georgia has made its mark on the festival map with their Watermelon Days Festival, taking place this year from July 4 - 12. The oldest festival in the state of Georgia, this festival celebrates Cordele's title as the "Watermelon Capital of the World" for producing the sweetest watermelon in the nation!

Like dessert? Of course you do! Who doesn't? Indulge your sweet tooth at Coffee Fest Atlanta / Great American Dessert Show. Technically, this is a trade show for those in the coffee and tea industry, but with desserts aplenty to sample, you may want to spend a day pretending you are interested in the biz. Attend June 1 - 3 at the Cobb Galleria. Get your sweet tooth on at http://www.coffeefest.com/

Clearly there are a lot of things going on in Georgia this summer with festivals aplenty. Best bet is the Sweet Auburn Springfest, where you can catch the next India Arie or Raven Symone.
