Summer Festivals in Indiana

Indiana may not throw as many summer festivals as some of its neighboring states, but what it lacks in quantity, it sure makes up with quality. These distinctive events that take place across the state during the summer months have a little something for everyone.

The Indianapolis Broad Ripple Art Fair takes place from May 19 - 20 at The Indianapolis Art Center. This two day event features art from over two hundred artists, four stages, gourmet food courts, beer and wine gardens, and a kids' world, including a creativity tent for your own budding artiste. The car cruise-in brings in more than three hundred cars to the New Haven Canal Days Festival at Schnelker Park in New Haven, from June 5 - 9, 2007. This family friendly festival also offers a Kids' Day, free entertainment, food, a fishing derby, and the Shrine Parade of Lights.

The Indiana Fiddlers' Gathering takes place at Tippecanoe Battlefield in Battle Ground, IN, from June 22 - 24. With a heritage-embracing feel, this festival isn't just a fiddling festival. Vocalists, violinists, and dancers are equally at home at the gathering. There are gospel and quilt shows, as well as some of the finest fiddling in the country. If you love trains, Berne Swiss Days offers plenty of them, plus much more. Held across the town of Berne, IN, during July 26 - 29, the Berne Swiss Days offer a unique train adventure, plus micro-reality stock car racing, water wars, an Alpine Climbing Wall, and entertainment. There won't be many summer festivals where you can hear a twelve-year-old yodeling sensation, see traditional Alpine dancing, or listen to musicians who play the accordion. A medicine wagon, just like the ones that used to travel through the old west, is the unique draw of the Amish Acres Arts & Crafts Festival that takes place in Nappanee, IN from August 2nd through 5th at Amish Acres Historic Farm. Nearly four hundred artists and crafters will display their merchandise at this festive event. And you will get a little history too. The festival is held on a farm that is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. There are three stages of live entertainment, family style dinners, and live theatre. Regardless of your interests, one of these Indiana festivals should have something fun to offer you. Check some of them out if you are traveling though Indiana or just want an alternative to visiting Indianapolis.
