Summer in Motion, in its eighteenth year this year, has become one of Kentucky's premiere festivals for family entertainment. Taking place each year in Ashland, KY, the festival includes a soap box derby, a beauty pageant, carnival rides, a petting zoo, a craft show, fireworks, and popular live music. In the past, artists such as Wynonna, The Beach Boys, Martina McBride, Kool and the Gang, Grand Funk Railroad, and Merle Haggard have all graced the riverfront stage of Summer in Motion. This year you can see Starship, Lee Greenwood, and Diamond Rio in concert at Summer in Motion. Get all the information you need at http://www.summermotion.com/
Do you want to see how a small town throws a big blowout? Main Street in downtown Corbin, KY is turned into party central this August 6 - 11 for Nibroc. This family friendly festival brings the entire community together. In fact, all schools are closed on Thursday and Friday for the event, and local health care facilities bus their residents downtown for the festivities so that everyone can be a part of the fun. With a free outdoor stage, a car and motorcycle show, a street party, contests, games, crafts, food, and parades, this party is the party to be at this summer.
This May 18, 19, and 20th, attend Kentucky's first outdoor festival of the summer season. MainStrasse Village comes alive with the 23rd annual MainStrasse Village Maifest, which takes place in Covington, KY right next to Cincinnati, Ohio. Celebrating the first spring wines in a traditional German welcoming, Maifest has drinks, food, and fun for the whole family. Nearly one hundred arts and crafts booths line the main thoroughfare with artisans crafting new creations and offering their wares for sale. Live entertainment, with everything from traditional German music to Country and Rock 'n' Roll, this festival has something to entertain everyone. Find out more about Maifest at http://www.mainstrasse.org/
Appalshop in Whitesburg holds Seedtime on the Cumberland from June 4 - 9 this year. Celebrating the mountain culture of the area through the arts, the festival features theater, storytelling, film, and a square dance. There is a hike to Lilley Cornett Woods, and plenty of great live music!
While there are some other festivals happening around Kentucky this summer, these are some of the larger ones that should not be missed.
