At the Annual Portland Festival of Nations, people of all ethnicities come together to celebrate their diversity, and try to promote understanding and communication between the people from different backgrounds who are sharing the home state of Maine. This free event takes place this year on July 28, 2007 in Deering Oak Park, and is meant for the whole family, offering exhibits, music, food, art, and an international bizarre. You can find more information at http://wini.us/festival.htm
The North Atlantic Blues Festival will be held this year on July 14th and 15th at Harbor Park in Rockland, Maine. The park sits directly beside the ocean, and is a beautiful setting for the national blues artists who make their way to the northeast corner of the States each year for the event. On Saturday, the club crawl closes down Main Street, as visitors can walk from bar to bar and restaurant to restaurant, checking out the local blues acts that will be playing in each venue. With dancers, students, teachers, and choreographers from all over the world, the Bates Dance Festival in Lewiston is the ideal place for both performers and audiences to experience new steps and changes in the world of dance. The festival includes workshops for students from six-years-old to adults, and presentations from internationally-known contemporary dancers flow across the main stage. If you like to dance, or you just enjoy watching, you'll fit right in at the festival from July 14 - August 11, 2007. Check it out at http://abacus.bates.edu/dancefest/
Believe it or not, the best thing about this festival isn't the name! The best thing about the Blistered Fingers Family Bluegrass Festival is the music. The festival, which takes place from August 23 - 26, 2007, brings pickers and players to Sidney, Maine for four days of incredible bluegrass music. Drive up in your RV, or don't forget to pack your tent, and make this event an over-nighter.
And if that's not enough music in August, the American Folk Festival on the Bangor Waterfront takes place from August 24 - 26, 2007. Over two dozen folk acts perform on five stages, with music, dance and performance art honoring their heritage. A children's area will keep the kids occupied, regional and ethnic food will delight your taste buds, and a Folk Arts Marketplace will drain your wallet if you're not careful!
Have fun checking out all the live music happening at the various summer festivals all over the state of Maine this summer.
