Summer Festivals in Michigan

Summertime in Michigan is a great time to get outside and play and enjoy the summer sunshine. Festivals are family friendly events that offer entertainment while getting a walk outdoors. Michigan has festivals with festive atmospheres and fresh air during the summer months. Some of the summer festivals in Michigan include the Mackinac Island Lilac Festival, Derbyshire Renaissance Faire, Rothbury Festival, National Cherry Festival, Silver Leaf Renaissance Faire and the Michigan State Fair.

Mackinac Island Lilac Festival June 5-14

The 60th annual Mackinac Island Lilac Festival is a ten day event with events and fun for all. Events at the Lilac Festival include a parade and the Mackinac Island Dog and Pony Show. On Friday, June 12 the Mackinac Island Dog & Pony Club will hold the Blessing of the Animals and pelts are welcome.

Derbyshire Renaissance Faire June 20 21 27 28

Derbyshire Renaissance Faire is held for two weekends at the Muskegon County Fairgrounds. Stoll the historic lanes of a marketplace that recreates the days of old England.

Rothbury Festival July 2 - 5

This entertainment event is a performing arts event committed to the circus and theater culture. Events include musical entertainment, a Masquerade Ball and an aerial performance in the tree tops. Rothbury Festival entertainment lineup includes Bob Dylan, The String Cheese Incident, Willie Nelson & Family, the Black Crowes and more.

At night the Sherwood Forest at Rothbury come alive with an extravagant light display, with surprise performances and nighttime parties in the depths of the forest.

National Cherry Festival July 4 - 11

The National Cherry Festival in Traverse City host events, entertainment, food and air shows. The National Cherry Festival has been holding air shows since its beginning in the 1930's. This year is the 83rd National Cherry Festival Air Show. Cherries Grand Buffet is a meal showcasing recipes featuring cherries, from wraps to salads to desserts.

Silver Leaf Renaissance Faire July 11 - August 9 weekends

Silver Leaf Ren-Faire is a step back into medieval times, to land that is part history and part fantasy. The magical faire is open weekends. According to the information on the Silver Leaf website, the first two weekends are free for kids. The final weekend is Pirates Plunder. Tickets at the gate are $12 adults.

Michigan State Fair August 28 - September 7

The Michigan State Fair is an entertainment value with fair events every day. Family oriented fun is a great way to spend the day for parents and for kids.

    Hah, a real dog and pony show. That term is such a pejorative in these parts, funny to see it used for its literal purpose.
