Summer Festivals in Nevada

No one ever asks, "What is there to do in Nevada?" When a state is home to both Las Vegas and Reno, the resounding answer is, "Well, you can always gamble." But that is not all there is to do in Nevada. For every tenth slot machine in the state, it seems there is also a huge recording artist or a world-famous magician on stage. There is plenty to do in Nevada, and during the summer festival season, there is even more to put on that list.

One of the most unique festivals in the country, and somewhat out of place in Vegas, is the International Trombone Festival. It takes place this year from May 31 - June 2 at the University of Las Vegas. The event is for trombone enthusiasts and players. Workshops bring together professional performers with students and amateurs to warm up, play, and learn together. If you want to know more, get the info at http://www.trombonefestival.net/

If you plan to go gambling this summer in Reno, try to get there during July for the Uptown Downtown ARTown festival. The event, which takes place at different venues all around town, last for the entire month of July, and brings over two hundred performances and visual arts shows to the city. Symphony, jazz, storytelling, cowboy poetry, outdoor movies, dance, and workshops for children are just some of the offerings of this month long event. Go back to the era of "American Graffiti" at the Fifties Fever & Good Times Street Drags in downtown Winnemucca, taking place during the dates of August 3 - 5, 2007. A free concert, parade, poker run, street dances, hundred of classic cars, and street drag races all take you back to the good ole days of American history all within the borders of a small American town.

And if you don't get enough at Fifties Fever, head on over to Reno for Hot August Nights, happening from August 5th through 12th, and remember the era from the borders of a city. More than a quarter of a million people come in for this tribute to the 50s and 60s. There is a prom night, drag races, a parade, a car auction, a Poker run, a nostalgia fair, and over four thousand classic cars on hand for your enjoyment. If you would like to go back in time in Reno this summer, get all of the details at http://www.hotaugustnights.net/

So, take a break from putting coins in the slot machines and take in one of these festivals going on in Nevada this summer.
