Summer Festivals in Oklahoma

Like folk music? Cowboys? How about hot dogs? You can find any, or all, of these things this summer at festivals in Oklahoma.

The Rooster Days Festival in Broken Arrow has run annually since 1932, making it the oldest festival in Oklahoma. It is held May 10 - 13, 2007 at Central Park, and features the Miss Chick contest, carnival rides and games, entertainment, arts, a parade, and, of course, lots of food. Check it out at http://www.brokenarrow.org/roosterdaysfestival_files/slide0001.htm

If you are listening for some great bluegrass, you can find that at the Arbuckle Mountain Spring Bluegrass Jam in Wynnewood, OK, May 13 - 17, 2007 at Arbuckle Mountain Park. With a gospel and country music park and an open stage, this music fest is bluegrass-focused, but not exclusively bluegrass. There is a Band Scramble and a Quilt Drawing, food and fun. But please no drugs, alcohol, or electric instruments. Find out all about this great musical event at http://arbucklemtbluegrasspark.homestead.com/

The Tulsa International Mayfest takes place May 17-20, 2007 in downtown Tulsa. A street-invading outdoor event that brings art and music to art lovers from all walks of life. The dance, musical, and other live performances, as well as visual arts of all disciplines draw in a crowd of over three hundred and fifty thousand people yearly. How cowboy is Oklahoma? Cowboy enough to hold a festival like the Chuck Wagon Gathering and Children's Cowboy Festival. And cowboy enough to be home to the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum where the festival takes place. The National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum is in Oklahoma City, and on May 26 - 27, they hold this charming festival that is chock full of family entertainment and history. With cowboy fixin's, like biscuits and beans, an Old West Medicine Show, stagecoach and covered wagon rides, and hands-on activities inside the museum compound, you don't get more western than this uniquely entertaining festival.

Get your folk music fix from July 11th through the 15th at the Woody Guthrie Folk Festival. This music fest, honoring the legacy of this great American singer/songwriter, takes place in Guthrie's hometown of Okemah, OK. Guthrie is well-known for such classic American folk songs as "This Land Is Your Land". The festival is free, and includes a children's festival at the city park. Additional information can be found at http://www.woodyguthrie.com/

Free admission and free hot dogs. What more could you want on a warm summer day in July? Get both at Hog Dog Daze in Clinton, July 20 - 21, 2007. For two days, hot dogs take over Clinton's Frisco Street, bringing people together for a parade, a rodeo, and, appropriately enough, Weiner Dog races.

Whether you are looking for some great fair food hot dogs, or just wanting to take in some good bluegrass music or sample some great art, Oklahoma has a festival to meet your needs.
