Summer Festivals in Texas

Merz
Is everything really bigger in Texas? If these giant-sized Texas state festivals are any indication, there may be something to that theory.

In Trinity Park, along the Trinity River, right at downtown Fort Worth, Mayfest offers six stages of live entertainment, sixty booths of art and crafts, games, and a children's area that is award winning. See if for yourself from May 3 - 6 this year, and get all the information you need about it at http://mayfest.org/

It's a bird. It's a plane. If you are in Carthage, TX between the dates of May 4 - 6, it is more than likely a hot air balloon. The Celebration of Flight Balloonfest includes some twenty-five hot air balloons, airplanes, a tractor show, and a car cruise-in. Tethered balloon rides, country singers, and a hangar dance are just some of the events you can expect at the Balloonfest.

If you prefer keeping your feet on the ground, you can do that at Western Days in Elgin, a Texas town twenty miles east of the capital city of Austin. The festival is held June 18th through 23rd, holding events in everything from the high school cafeteria to the Lost Pines Rodeo Arena. Carnival rides and games will be located at Memorial Park, and there is a golf tournament for the drivers and putters in the area. Arts, crafts, a parade, sporting tournaments, and the Miss Western Days Pageant, this is one great big party.

This June 1 - 3, get to Longview, TX for AlleyFest. Featuring artisans in Alley Artfeatures and performers in Music Feston from across the state and beyond, AlleyFest is a tribute to the artistic way of the Lake Country of Texas. Kiss Army, a Texas tribute band to Kiss, performs Friday night. The Alley Runon, a run for the athletes, takes place on Saturday, and Kids Feston, with activities and exhibits especially for the kids, is held on Saturday and Sunday. Get more information on the events offered at http://www.alleyfest.org/

If you are anywhere near Ft. Worth from July 13th through the 15th, try to make it downtown for the Gran Fiesta Forth Worth. This huge outdoor event that highlights Hispanic culture features music, food, art, and an emphasis on the traditions of people of Hispanic origin in Texas in one big fun festival.

The top festival in Corpus Christi runs April 18th through May 7th. Buccaneer Days includes a carnival, a barbecue cook-off, and fireworks. The Illuminated Night Parade takes place on May 6th. This event annually draws almost two-hundred thousand people to Leopard Street.

With many different festivals to choose from, Texas is a great place to be if you are looking for something fun for the whole family this summer.
