Summer Festivals in Vermont

Music and family are the two primary focuses of summer festivals all across the country and Vermont does not deviate from that tried and true formula. Here is where you can find great music and great family-friendly entertainment in the state this summer.

The Roots on the River/ Fred Eaglesmith Weekend brings nearly twenty bands and artists from the New England area and Canada, as well as select performers from Texas and Louisiana to the Bellow Falls area for four nights of live bluegrass, blues, and acoustic sets. Held at the Everday Inn, the yearly festival draws people from around the world. Other events that take place over the four days, June 7th through 10th, include a barbeque, an art show, a Sunday brunch, and a street hockey tournament. Held at Forget-Me-Not Farm, this eco-friendly event offers music and dance, in an effort to promote the idea of actively working toward creating a healthier Earth. If you are looking for a family-friendly event aimed at pleasing everyone in your group, look no further than the Stratton Family Festival, held at Stratton Village Square in Stratton on July 28th and 29th. Anyone is welcome to bring their most cherished stuffed teddy for the Teddy Bear Parade, and there will be prizes in many different categories for the stuffed friends. Flag Acres Zoo will hold a petting zoo for the youngsters, as well as offering information sessions on caring for the critters. Beer gardens will be opened up for outdoor dining, and there is plenty of food to indulge in. Find out how to take part at http://www.stratton.com/index.htm

The Chilly Ranch in Albany, Vermont hosts The Northeast Kingdom Festival, taking place on August 3rd and 4th. This music fest promises to offer many of the "best bands you've never hear of" for the dancing and listening pleasure of its large, diverse crowd. With genres such as hip-hop, folk, rock, funk, and bluegrass all represented, no matter what your musical tastes, you are bound to find something you can tap your foot to. The Kingdom fest prides itself on being family-friendly, and yet one of the best parties in the northeast. One ticket price gets you into the concerts, as well as access to a camping spot.
