Summer Film Camp: New York Film Academy, Universal Studios and Other Locations

If being behind the camera, or in front of the camera is the apple of your child's eye, then maybe the Big Apple is the place for him or her. New York Film Academy's Film Camp for teens and Tweens is sure to be a big hit in your house if this is their niche. This article will review the New York Film Academy's Summer Camps.

Could it be you have a budding filmmaker or director on your hands? Well the perfect way for you and your child to discover budding talents is by spending two weeks at summer film camp. This two-week camp available in New York City and Universal Studios Hollywood is offered for youths between the ages of 10 to 13 years. During this two-week of intensive training in summer film camp, they will learn filmmaking or acting for film. Classes meet between the hours of 9:00AM to 3:00PM Monday through Friday.

There is a one-hour break for lunch. A one-week enrollment is an option if for some reason the two-week camp doesn't work for the student. If you are a local, there is a program that runs in a twelve-week block during the school year offering Weekend Filmmaking and Acting for Youth. Classes meet for three to four hours the twelve Saturdays of the programs.

The goal of the Two-Week Summer Film Camp is for the attendees to use moving images to tell a story. There is hand on learning with digital cameras as well as learning the basics of directing firms. The summer film camp curriculum also covers classes in writing, cinematography, production, editing, and directing. Students will have knowledge of the basic crew positions at the end of camp. Students will work in small crews in order to write, edit, and direct their three-minute shorts. For students to make a finished film they will need to attend the full two-week summer film camp.

The acting segment of film summer day camp focuses on the basics of the craft using fundamental technique and scene study. Students will be engaged in activated, which focus on their acting training as it pertains to the technical requirements when on a real film set. Students are encouraged to be creative, and are exposed to techniques that prepare them to become the character.

Not only will students enjoy themselves and walk away with knowledge of making films and actions, they will also walk away with additional self-confidence and self-esteem. The summer film camp for Tweens is offered only at the New York Film Academy and Universal Studios.

For older teens between the ages of 14-17 the summer film camp offered is a cluster of 16MM Digital Filmmaking Intensive Workshops. The workshops run from 4 to 6 weeks. Students need not have any experience, but do need to come to camp prepared to fully immerse time, being, and effort into the workshop. Space is very limited for this program.

Summer Film Camp students will be provided with the equipment necessary to make their films. This same equipment is the type used in the industry professionally. Though the workshop is designed for people who have never made films, when students leave they will have a complete work to either start or add to their portfolio. The exposure in this program allows students to decide if this is a career they want to pursue in college and beyond to a professional level. Students will take an initial idea concept, turn this into a treatment, and turn the treatment into an outline, and finally into a full script. They will learn to direct, they will learn about lighting, and they will learn to use the camera. Students will be broken up into crews and will rotate the positions of Writer Director, Director of Photography, Assistant Camera, and Editor.

The summer film camp program for high school students is offered not only in New York City, but other locations as well including such cities as Paris, London, Florence Italy, Los Angeles, and Orlando.
