At Georgia Southern University, located in Statesboro, Georgia, there is a summer program that is offered to students that want to go to the University but they do not have the SAT score that is needed to enter in the Fall when all other Freshman start. This program is called EIP, Eagle Initiative Program.

To be accepted into Georgia Southern University, GSU, you have to have a SAT score better than 1000. Some people try so hard and take the SAT many different times but are not able to get a score above 1000. GSU has this program EIP for the people that can't get the 1000 score. To be accepted into the Eagle Initiative Program, a person must get a score of 920 to 1000.

GSU says that people can still be a successful student but may not be good test takers. That is why they have the EIP program. This program gives the student 7 course hours to take in 5 weeks. The classes are two core classes and the orientation class that all incoming freshman are required to take. If the student wants to be accepted into the fall semester, they are required to get a "C" cumulative average of all the classes that they took.

This program is helpful in many ways. The student is able to get to know the college campus, during the summer when there are not a lot of people there, and that is helpful. EIP is also helpful in getting the student to be 7 course hours ahead of the Freshman that start in the Fall. The third thing that is good about the summer session is that the student gets to get a feel for how the professors are and what the course load will be like. The main thing that is learned is time management, and it is good to learn it when the student is only taking 7 course hours compared to about 15 in the Fall semester.

I went through this program and found that it was a big help to me. I was able to get my three classes passed and it helped me get to be on the Dean's List with a 3.57 GPA. I felt that since I was only taking 7 course hours and would be taking 15 in the Fall that I should get my GPA high just in case I did not do so hot in the Fall classes. Getting my GPA high taking only 7 hours is easier to do then when will take 15 hours.

I got to meet people through this program that I became good friends with. That is helpful because in the Fall I will already know people that are going to GSU and will not be going not knowing anybody. I will have a feel for the campus and I will also know what it takes to achieve the good grades that I need to pass my classes.

All in all this program was a big help to me and if a person does not have a good SAT score that will get them into a college, this is a good place to start. That is if you want to go to Georgia Southern University. If you do not want to go to this college, then see if your college has something like this or can help you out. Maybe the EIP classes are transferable to your score. Check it out.
