Philadelphia is a great city with it's parks, museums and history. Summer time is a great chance to see the city and experience its culture. Below find some great summer activities for locals and tourists alike in the City of Brotherly Love.
Philadelphia Zoo
Open year round, but a great time to come is summer when a lot of the animals are out and about. Even if it's hot, a lot of the animals will stay outside to frolic in water. With some great summer events coming up, this is always a pleasing option to young and old alike. Below are just a few of the fun events planned.
Summer Safari - June 4th 4- 8 pm, free for zoo members. Stay late, learn more and enjoy puppet shows, feeding of some animals a parade and so much more. (also on July 9th and August 6th)
Summer Ale Festival - July 23rd 6:30 - 10pm Music, food, beer and animals oh my! Plenty of exhibits at this fundraiser. Tickets only available online - not at the door and they start at $30.
Wawa Welcome America! Festival
Eleven days of fun in the city of Philadelphia. There will be a Hoagie day, movie preview day, art exhibit day, ceremonies, picnics, block parties and more. Then, on July 4th, enjoy the big finale on Benjamin Franklin Parkway - 20th and Eakins Oval. Music group "The Roots" headline this festival and join Earth Wind and Fire, DJ Jazzy Jeff and other fantastic acts. A tribute this year to the 40th anniversary of Philadelphia International Records. After the music, enjoy the fireworks.

Reading Terminal Market
This farmers market is open year round, however, in the summer they also sport and outdoor market on Sundays from 9am - 3pm. They are located at 51 North 12th Street. Check their calendar for cooking classes, tours, live music and more. This market "square" has bakeries, seafood, restaurants, plants, Pennsylvania Dutch products and a lot more.
Summer Concert Series at Penn's Landing
Located at the Great Plaza (199 S. Columbus Blvd.) at Penn's Landing, right on the water, this is a beautiful and popular spot to be. There are family nights, Jazz nights, gospel and more. Complete Schedule
The events are free, so support the local vendors in the area.
Movie Night - Hancock (Schuylkill Banks)
Check the schedule out for Schuylkill Banks, there are a lot of fun, summer activities. On Thursday June 9th, enjoy a movie night by the Walnut Street Bridge. Bring a picnic and a blanket and enjoy the night. Movie starts at 8:20 pm. Snacks and beverages are available. This is a free event, so it is first come, first serve for a place to sit.
