At first glance Monticello, Ky, may not seem like a tourist hot spot. However, every summer hundreds of tourist flock to this rural southern Kentucky town. Why, you ask? Monticello, Ky, is home to the largest lake east of the Mississippi River. Along with a plethora of historical sites. You can get a four dollar tour of the Wayne County Historical Museum then head across the street to the still operating 1920's theater. If this is up your alley then be sure not to miss Mill Springs Battlefield, in the fall it's the home of the Corn Bread Festival. If you bring your own corn they will grind it in the still operational water powered mill. This isn't your cup of tea you say, how about wake boarding, skiing, tubing, and all manner of water sports in the beautiful Lake Cumberland. Two of the largest docks on Lake Cumberland are located in Monticello. Conley Bottom Resort and Beaver Creek Resort offer all sorts of water sport rentals down to a set of ski's, as well as camping, cabins, and condos. Don't miss Conley Bottom's Lighthouse Cafe while your in town. With all the southern charm and fun you can stand, this one horse town is one summer hot spot you can't miss.
