Summer Fun Things to Do in Derby, Kansas
Summer Fun for Kids, Young Adults, and Older Adults in One Suburb of Wichita, Kansas
There are at least three things to do in Derby, Kansas, for some summer fun that will not break the bank. You can watch morning matinees at the theater, enjoy the fun at a water park, and bowl and karaoke at the bowling alley.
Derby Plaza Theaters Matinees
At the Derby Plaza Theaters, they are showing morning matinees starting at 10:30 AM CST on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. The cost for admission is $2 for all ages. They have a kiddie combo for $5.75.
This would be a great morning summer activity for all ages. The family can do this before heading off to the next activity in Derby.
Derby Plaza Theaters is located off of K-15 on the service road behind Kentucky Fried Chicken north of Towne Center Shopping Center. If you are driving Madison Avenue, it is located behind Meritrust Bank and behind Towne Center Shopping Center. It can be entered through the alley or drive area behind Dillons and the next entrance past the bank.
Tip: The theater is open year round, but only have the cheaper morning matinees during the summer. They do have afternoon they do have regular matinees and evening movies at the regular prices. If this is more your style with the kids, you can see great newly released movies.
Rock River Rapids
The Rock River Rapids Derby Aquatic Park is open 12:30 to 7:00 pm daily. They have a variety of passes. The daily pass are $8 for ages 3-17, $9 for ages 18 and over, and ages from 0-2 are free. $5 after 5 passes are good after 5:00 pm.
The Season pass are $65, $50 if bought through December 31, and $58.50 passes can be bought from January 1 through May 27. Call or email for more details on the last two passes on the website listed above.
Rock Rapids Derby Aquatic Park is located off of Rock Road, east of the James Street light. It is located north of the high school and behind the Village Inn on Rock Road.
Tip: Derby Aquatic Park is only open during the summer season as it is not a covered indoor waterpark.
Derby Bowl
Derby Bowl has a variety of youth activities available. You will need to call for the Youth Program at this bowling location. They also have an arcade and cosmic bowling. For those who want to join a bowling league, those are available as well. You will need to call for openings for those.
Located inside the Derby Bowl is Kegler's Sports Bar and Grill. If you are not into bowling or are waiting for Cosmic Bowling on Friday nights, you can karaoke starting at 9:00 pm at the bar. You could consider this a night of fun filled activities in one stop.
Derby Bowl is located on the South side of Derby near the Sonic (across the street) on K-15.If you are coming in from the South on K-15 and pass the Sonic on the West side of the street, you have gone too far and if going south on K-15 if you get to the Water Treatment plant, you have gone too far.
The Derby Bowl is also open year round.
