Summer Infant Baby's Day and Night Video Monitor Review

Jack Woods
The Summer Infant Baby's Day and Night Video Monitor is a very simple video monitor that is perfectly suitable for your child's room. It is a very modest product, it does not boast with any extra options, it just covers all of the basic things that you would expect in a baby monitor.

The Basics
I got the Summer Infant Baby's Day and Night Video Monitor for 120 bucks from Baby's R Us. At that moment, we really did not know how to pick out a baby monitor. We were on the lookout for a simple baby video monitor, so we could watch over our child when he was sleeping in the crib. And with the Summer Infant Baby's Day and Night Video Monitor, that's was what we gained.

The monitor of the Summer Infant Baby's Day and Night Video Monitor covers a pretty good range, as the house that we live in is about 2000 square feet, spread out on two floors, and despite this, the video monitor was still able to produce top notch video and sound.

Installing it
The camera can be connected to the most common outlet. One of the problems we initially had was, that we could not find a place to put the camera. The Summer Infant Baby's Day and Night Video Monitor came with single hook, so we had trouble mounting it to the wall. Eventually, we put the camera on the edge of the crib, and placed the wires underneath the crib, so that he couldn't get his hands on it.

Sound and Video Quality
The quality of the video and sound proved to be terrific. If the camera of the Summer Infant Baby's Day and Night Video Monitor is properly set up, it provides you with really clear image and sound. There are two modes, one for night, the other for day time. We tested out the two modes, by switching off the lights in the room. It turns out that there is a slight delay when the camera switches from one mode to the other. Yet, the video quality remained the same, despite the room being dark. I couldn't say a bad word about the sound quality of the Summer Infant Baby's Day and Night Video Monitor either.

The Negative
The Summer Infant Baby's Day and Night Video Monitor isn't portable, as it doesn't run on batteries. The cord is only six feet in length, thus you have plan to carefully, as where to place it, so that you could plug it into the outlet. You may even need to get an extension cord for it.

One of the other negative aspects of the The Summer Infant Baby's Day and Night Video Monitor, is the interference, due to this, you cannot really keep the monitor and the camera together. In our experience, you would have to keep them 10-15 feet apart from each other. Having a solid wall between the two will stop the interference though.

The camera of the Summer Infant Baby's Day and Night Video Monitor gives off an annoying drone-like sound. It isn't too bad though, and you can easily live with it.

In conclusion
Although the Summer Infant Baby's Day and Night Video Monitor does its job perfectly, the portability is a major issue. So, if you are planning to buy this, think twice, whether you can live with a device that must be connected to the power outlet at all times. Despite this, I would recommend the Summer Infant Baby's Day and Night Video Monitor.
