Summer in Iowa - Poem

Changes

JUNEANN REED
Summer in Iowa
Changes every day,
Band concerts, ball games
And farmers mowing hay.

That yellow ball of sun
Shines down upon us all,
But lately it seems
Many raindrops do fall.

The trees are full and waving
Sometimes fast and sometimes slow,
They hold rope swings and children
Who swing to and fro.

Frolicking through the fields,
Those little springtime calves,
Families hold reunions
Cutting juicy melons into halves.

Gardens of veggies and flowers
Are giving us their bounty,
Soon Iowan's will be enjoying fairs
Held in nearly every county.

Bikes and trikes and scooters too
Move through our neighborhood,
Kids with chocolate faces smile
That chocolate must have been good.

It's OK to take some time
To invite the neighbors over,
Light up the grill and pour a drink
And toss a snack to Rover.

Pack a fishpole in your car
Some worms and tasty snacks too,
Drive over to the lake or pond
Let summer float over you.

Take time to admire
What God has sent our way,
Then fold your hands in prayer
Thankful for this summer day.

  • Best of Iowa in summer.
  • Take time to enjoy God's gifts to us.
  • Iowa summers are fun for all.
Iowa summers can be full of fun things to do. You can actively spend money on many events such as art fairs, auto races, ball games, music and shows - or you can take a bike ride or invite the neighbors over.
