Summer Job Hunting Tips for Teens

Logan Banner
Its summertime and if you are the typical teenager, you don't want to spend most of your summer just sitting around the house watching TV or playing video games. You want to put some cash in your pocket so you are able to buy the things that you want or you need. When it comes to finding a job, many teens go about doing so the wrong way. In this article, I want to give a couple of tips that will help your teenager improve their chances of getting a job. Lets begin.

Always Apply In Person

When trying to get a summer job, you never want to call the employer that you are looking to hire you and ask them if they are hiring. If you do call, you are not going to get the answer you are looking for. You always want to apply for a job in person. The employer wants to see what potential employees looks like before they hire them. If you are trying to seek employment over the telephone, it would be kind of hard for the hiring manager to get an assessment of you. Always apply for a job in person.

Go Alone

You never want to come with a group of friends and ask "Is Y'all Hiring". It is best that you come alone. The friends that you hang around can be a reflection of the person that you are. If your friends are rowdy and rough, then the person who is doing the hiring might think that you are rowdy and rough. Don't even give your employer a chance to make a judgment on you based on your company. Always apply for a job alone.

Know When to Apply

One of the biggest pet peeves of many employers is when potential employees try to apply at the wrong time. You never want to try to get a job during busy business hours. The ideal time is usually between 2-4 Monday-Friday. Doing a job hunt on the weekend is never a good idea. These days are usually the busiest days of the week, so the hiring manager will not have time to talk to you. Always try to come between their slower hours. You are more likely to get an interview during that time.

Summertime can be a great time for teens to make money. Follow these tips and you will have a greater chance at landing the job you are looking for.
