Summer Lemon Spritzers

A Quick Cool-me-down You Can Whip Up in the Kitchen in No Time for Your Kids!

Ly-ann T. Low
It's the high-noon of summer and the kids are out in the yard splashing water at each other. Instead of reaching for a caffeine and calorie laden soft drink that might just rot the teeth off their gums, how about a cool blend that's bound to make you a hit with the kids? Maybe they'll even have yours instead of the soda man's the next time!

LEMON SPRITZER SLUSH

Ingredients
Sugar
Lemon (or other preferred citrus/tart fruit)
Ice
and a mint leaf topping completely optional though!

1. Boil a bit of syrup in the pan, 1 tablespoon of sugar for every serve. This is the only heat you'll use so you could make a big batch to store in the fridge for the rest of summer.

2. Squeeze out lemon juice, 1 lemon/serve. For an uber-kwik fix, I've used lemon concentrate. Ratios depend on the concentrate so I won't give you a measure for that, just read the label!

3. Pop ice cubes, lemon juice and cooled-down syrup in a blender. I used the same one I made my breakfast smoothie in in, it'll do. Give it a whir till the mixture looks white from the fizz (it comes from all the ice cubes blending and mixing up to aerate the drink). Makes it look good!

4. Pour the slush into drinking glasses, top with a mint leaf for extra cool effort.

Viola!
