Summer is Looming, The Economy is Not Booming: Travel To Mexico on a Budget

Lynda Braun
With the anticipation of summer, comes the idea of vacation travel. Mexico is definitely a place to visit if you
are traveling on a budget. First of all, it is a good idea to travel during their off-season which is in the summer.
I have traveled frequently with my family in July and August and have always found the prices to be less for everything you do including, hotel and airfare. For example, if you were to travel to lovely Cancun in August, the airfare from a big city like New York to Cancun would cost $230 per person. At this time Jet Blue Airlines is offering this discounted price. I highly recommend checking online frequently, for airfare costs go up and down , especially in the wee small hours of the morning. From personal experience, I have saved several hundred dollars by doing this. Another good reason to travel in the summer, is because you can start saving
a little bit each day, starting today. You can plan, dream, and truly look forward to that summer trip.

When our budgets are limited, as they are today, a good idea is to take a shorter trip. My family and I have taken several 4-6 day vacations and have enjoyed them thoroughly. There is nothing wrong with ending a vacation on a high note, because everyone wants to stay longer. After all, nothing is more precious than spending time with your family, and a short vacation will definitely save you money on hotel, food, entertainment, etc...

The reason I choose Cancun, is because it is beautiful, safe, clean, and relaxing. You can choose to stay in a moderate hotel and have a fantastic time. What may surprise you, is that the Hilton Cancun Golf and Spa Resort
which is located in the middle of the famous "Hotel Zone," is offering a room, with an ocean view , two queen beds, that can accommodate 4 people, for $144 per night. Considering, this is a high-end resort, the price is extremely reasonable. It has many ameneties such as, beach front, spa, golf, restaurants, pools, and even a swim up bar. You might prefer another type of hotel with fewer ameneties, but I thought this was a good place to start.

Another great tip for saving money, is to eat a light breakfast and lunch, and save money during the day so you can splurge on a nice evening meal. You may decide to have pizza or tacos two of the nights and then have a nicer meal on the other nights. Remember, there is nothing wrong with eating on a budget while on vacation, since you are lucky you were able to get away in the first place.

A great tip about entertainment would be to relax and get that nice suntan, (use good sunscreen) and do a little sightseeing. The ancient ruins are great to see, and horseback riding on the beach can be great. By getting a good price for your airfare and hotel, you may choose to do one of these sightseeing ideas. Also, keep in mind, that by traveling to beautiful Cancun, you may be just as happy spending most of your time just doing nothing.
That's a great way to stick to a budget. If you need a taxi or rental car, don't be too shy to ask for better prices than first quoted. There is also a bus system that could take you downtown for very little money.
These are a few tips on how to save money, still sleep in a beautiful hotel, and have a fantastic time.

Now, that I have written this, I must admit that my mind is heading into that vacation mode. Maybe, I'll see you in Mexico!!!
