Summer, breathless, hot and sweet
Warms both the frozen blood, and thought;
Softens the soul, which once was caught
In Winter's grasp, with welcome heat.
Warms both the frozen blood, and thought;
Softens the soul, which once was caught
In Winter's grasp, with welcome heat.
Where once the world was frigid, silent,
Somnolent, under ice and snow,
Now insects hum and birdsongs flow
From trickling song, to torrent.
I love the Summer, knowing well
That it will flee, as wonders do,
And leave a happy residue
With which to weave a Winter's spell.
So love me with a Summer heart,
Kiss me, drink me, breathe me in.
Close your eyes to the deafening din,
Until the hour when you depart.
