Summer Memories Gone By

Bright Sunlight Filtering onto a Lawn Always Reminds Me of Summer Bliss

Calvin Wolf
Summer.

Bright sun. High noon.
Maybe going swimming soon.
Radio on, a lazy tune.
Nothing to do all afternoon.

Inside it's cool, the AC on,
Watching the sun and shade on the lawn.
Computer games now, then to the pool,
Gonna bring all my swim gear and look like a fool.

Water guns, snacks, fluffy towels as well.
Sparkly water clear as a bell.
Diving board, water refreshing, never feeling old.
Resting on my towel with a soda, ice cold.

Back home it's evening, clouds in the sky,
Thunder rumbles, excitement is nigh.
Movies in the den, listening to the rain,
Dreams of tomorrow I try to attain.

Summer days as a kid so carefree,
Days of fun for you and me.
Different today, more to do,
but somedays summer still seems so true.

Through my bedroom window a lone tree I see,
Out in the field, seems just for me.
Big tree, thick branches, shadows on the grass,
Back to my childhood my thoughts do pass.

I want a pool, my swim trunks, a snack,
Leave this adulthood and not look back.
Spend days lounging in anticipation
Hoping that next year at school will be best in the nation.

But being a grownup means fun summers still,
Enjoy lazy evenings with a cute girl I will.
Driving to a restaurant fancy, hip, and witty,
Spend time with Brittany, the girl oh so pretty.

She would like the tree, the field, the entire scene,
A fan of summer she is, very keen.
Someday I will show her the view through the bedroom window
And tell her the good memories of summers ago.

Summer.
