Summer Movies and Festivals in the Sacramento Area for 2010

From foreign films to domestic movies, all the way to outdoor camping at music festivals, Northern California offers an eclectic and delightful palette of summer entertainment to choose from. These are just a few of the many, varied opportunities to get out and have fun during the hottest part of the year.

Sacramento French Film Festival (SFFF)

When: June 18th-27th
Where: Crest theater (midtown Sacramento)

This annual festival opens it's eighth season on Friday, June 18th at the Crest theater with a catered reception, followed by the opening film. It shows movies all day Saturday and Sunday, with midnight Saturday shows for mature audiences, and runs on two consecutive weekends, ending with a champagne reception following the final film on Sunday, June 27th. Tickets can be purchased directly from the website, from Tickets.com or the Crest box office. Tickets are available individually per film, or patrons can buy weekend or festival-long passes. Regal Free Family Film Festival

When: June 8th-August 12th
Where: Various Regal Cinemas

Showing rated-G and PG movies every Tuesday and Wednesday morning starting at 10AM during the festival, Regal Cinemas has been offering this family-friendly summer entertainment since 1991. Seating is first-come, first-served and tickets are only available at the theater's box office on the day of the show. So come early!

35th Annual Father's Day Bluegrass Festival

Where: Nevada County Fairgrounds, Grass Valley, CA

When: June 17th-20th

If you are looking for something to do for Father's Day weekend, this long-running, annual festival offers a little something for everybody; Old Time Music and Bluegrass for adults to Kids on Bluegrass, Children's Programs and even camping onsite. Featured artists include: Rhonda Vincent and the Rage, Russell Moore and IIIrd Thyme Out, James King Band and G2 (from Sweden). If planning on attending this event here are a few things to keep in mind -

No pets allowed on the festival grounds before or during the festival

Camping (in the rough on the festival site) is available on a first-come, first-served basis for a fee of $20 per unit per night beginning Sunday, June 13th through Wednesday, June 16th.

Camping during the festival is included in three and four day tickets.

Picnic baskets and coolers permitted (no glass), food and soft drink concession stands are on site.

Bring your own seating (lawn chairs, blankets, etc...)

Festival will be held rain or shine - no refunds.

Teens are 16-18; 15 years and under are FREE with a paying adult.
