Summer is Over - Tips on Transitioning to Fall

Kaya Cassan
Pack up your flip flops and bathing suits because summer is over. It's official, we have entered the rim of fall depending on what region of the world you are residing in. I am in the north eastern part of the country so I have to prepare for blizzards and harsh winds. The fall season is not my favorite but I tend to manage through it. There are a few activities that I use to break in the season gingerly.

The fall season is a time for reflection of the year. I have read and met acquaintances who suffer from the winter blues. Some people just can not deal with the cold snow and icy winds often associated with fall. In some individuals it offsets a bit of depression and anxiety. On the other hand, some people love the fall and can not wait for Christmas or to build snow men. It does not really matter your position on the season because it is here to stay and should be celebrated.

Here are a few tips to bring in the fall:

- Buy New Clothes: There is nothing like buying a new outfit to accommodate the new climate. A nice pair of shoes or a nice warm coat to boot will make you want winter to come so you can show off your digs. Any kind of fall item like gloves and scarves can be fun to purchase.

- Fall Cleaning and Feng Shui: Clean your house in places you have never seen or imagined. It will help you eliminate some of the clutter in your home and your life. It is like cleaning out the old and bringing in the new. Any good Feng shui book can help with this process. According to Wikipedia, Feng shui (pronounced "fung shway") is the ancient Chinese practice of placement and arrangement of space to achieve harmony with the environment. The literal translation is "wind and water".

(1) Remember to keep all you study and office work out of your bedroom. Your bedroom should be your place of rest. If at all possible, keep all electronics our of your bedroom room due to the radiation they permeate.

(2) Always keep happy photos around to remind you to smile.

(3) Fill your home with plants because they produce oxygen.

(4) Clear out your home's doorway because you may be blocking goodness the new season has to bring.

- Have a end of summer party: Invite a few friends over and make it a celebration. Or, rent out a bar and hire trapeze artists. The more you celebrate the easier the transition will be. Make it a memorable time!

- Have a meditation moment. Contemplate the past summer and have a wish list for what you want to accomplish in the fall. Remember to write your goals and objectives for the end of the year down on paper. Also, write down everything you did that was positive and fulfilling since January.

- New Beginnings: Sign up for a new pottery class or start a Master's program. Remember to do something new that will exercise your mind and keep it off the fact that it's cold.

Whatever you decide, brave the new season with grace and power. This fall is your season. And, remember another new season is right around the corner!
