Summer in the Philippines

Aaron Tadeo
It's summer time once again in the Philippines. This is the time of the year when the school year ends so this is a great time for the kids to go on vacation. It's also one of the best times to visit our wonderful country and you won't run out of places to go to and things to do. Summer time in the Philippines usually starts at the end of February until the end of May. Temperatures usually range from 32-37 degrees Celsius (89.6-98.6 F).

During summer, the most famous destinations here in the Philippines are the exotic beaches. You can visit the famous Boracay Islands or Puerto Galera. These 2 are probably among the top tourist spots here in the country. There's also Dakak in southern Philippines and in the capital city of Manila and nearby provinces, you'll find lots of resorts where you and your family can have a wonderful time.

You may also visit Baguio City which is the summer capital of the Philippines. It's located near Benguet and Mountain province and the city is situated thousands of feet above sea level so even though it's really hot in most parts of the country, it's still cool in Baguio. It's a 4 to 5 hour drive from Manila. There are also a few other similar high elevation destinations such as Tagaytay City and Antipolo City. Temperatures usually range 20-28 C in these cities (68-82.4 F).

There are also lots of provinces to visit and you'll often see festivals native to each. There are lots of food, partying and the entire neighborhood is just filled with joy. You'll always experience and feel the hospitality our country is famous for. Just don't eat too much alright? Aside from eating, you'll see some activities and events such as games, pageants, parades and much more.

If you fancy on just staying in the city, Manila has sprung lots of malls and you'll usually run into one in every direction. You can also relax in one of the hotels and visit famous night spots such as bars in Eastwood Libis Quezon City, Metrowalk, Malate Manila, and at the shores of Manila Bay in Roxas Boulevard. You can also visit famous landmarks such as the Rizal Park or Quezon Memorial Circle.

Aside from the festivities, the start of summer is also the beginning of the Lenten Season. In fact, it was Ash Wednesday last Feb. 25, 2008. Holy Week is solemnly observed by most Filipinos. And on Easter Sunday, it's just a joyous celebration across the country.

If you have spare time and if you plan to visit the Philippines, summer time is the perfect time. There are lots of cool places to visit and people to meet. I assure you that you'll have a blast! Just have fun and enjoy the sights and sounds!
