Summer Kids Programs in Missouri

Here are some programs in Missouri to keep your kid(s) engaged and excited during the summer months:

4-H in Missouri, via the Missouri extension offices, offers opportunities for all ages. The Clover Kids program holds meetings that expose kids ages 5-7 to such topics as science, math, magic, and crafts. Check with your local extension office to find out about any events or activities they might have specific to summer. In addition, 4-H offers camps in Missouri that cater to all ages and are located in multiple counties. Some are overnight experiences while others are day camps. If your child can't participate in a camp, check out their fun Cyber Camp.

The Humane Society of Missouri is offering summer programs to teach children about pet care and humane treatment of animals. Younger children can learn about "doggie makeovers," "CSI: for animals," and even watch animal themed movies. These events are either located at the headquarters or in Union, MO or cost $20 per event. Teens can enroll in the summer program designed to teach them how to make a difference in their community and better the lives of animals. Such events center on where we get out food, treatment of circus animals, and animal-testing of products. They also cost $20 each.

Another option for animal lovers is available in Rolla, MO. Their Summer Vet Camp allows kids to be mentored in real vet procedures. They offer longer camps, but the mini-camp can be an affordable option for getting your kid exposed to this sort of profession at the lesser total cost of $765.

College for Kids is a residential camp program that takes place in Fulton, MO on the William Woods College campus. This program is designed to give kids from grades 3-9 the experience of living in college dorms and taking classes. These classes are design for gifted students and involve such topics as bridge building, journalism, magic, and history. Tuition and room/board costs $475.

The Missouri Department of Conversation is offering different events . From fishing activities to exploring caves, these events are a great way for kids to be exposed to different aspects of nature. Many of the events are free, like the Summer Movie Day presentation of "Snakes Tale" in St. Joseph, MO.
