Easy Breezy - Fiction
This category is for those books that are a fun, easy read. You don't have to tax your mind too much, yet the stories are still juicy with a lighter flavor.
1) Don't Forget to Call
This is an easy (and quick) read about a woman who has to choose between two men. It of course, is not as simple as that when a child is involved. Oh, and a jail cell too!
Author: Julie Wimmer (yes, that's me, and I have been told to put it on the list.)
This is a great choice for the train, plane or automobile.
2) The Dirty Parts of the Bible
How can preacher's son escape God? He is so interested in girls, is it possible? In a sort of vagrant adventure, "riding the rails," he learns new things about others and himself and what he can and can't escape. A good read.
Also great for travel, beach, pool, Sunday night or during your lunch hour at work!
Fun Non-Fiction
True stuff with pizazz.
1) Bossypants
A quirky sort of autobiography that will make you laugh and peak your curiosity about the author, show business and parts of her personal life.
Author: Tina Fey
Also a great choice for travel as well as the beach or pool.
2) The Bedwetter: Stories of Courage, Redemption and Pee
Strap your boots on for this one. The female author has a sense of humor like a very funny fisherman. This is her memoir, so be prepared for undeniable laughter and some possible cursing. Did I say possible??? She has proven herself a comedienne, and although sometimes a bit rough, the book will keep interested from front to back.
Author: Sarah Silverman
Because of the language, and if close quarters will make you bashful, read at the beach or in bed at night.
Heavy Fiction
Books that you can not just skim because each of the words of the book has a purpose. However, it is still fiction, so your imagination can still come into play.
1) Water for Elephants
Most people have probably heard of this popular book as it was on the New York Times Best Seller List and was made into a movie. This is a historical story about a Veterinary student who joins the circus, as their veterinarian, after his parents were killed. Why were they killed? Why the circus? You'll have to read it to find out!
Author: Sara Gruen
2) The Girl Who Played with Fire
If you have read or seen the movie "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" then you don't need to be convinced to read this book. And there is another sequel after this one. I think "Played with Fire" is a much easier read, actually, than the first book, however, maybe it is because I was so familiar with the characters from the first one. Lisbeth Salander is trying to be more normal and less moody, and possibly less scary. But she gets into some trouble and needs her old friends to help her out. That's what happens when you have enemies.
