Summer Schedule for Kids

During the summer some kids tend to get bored easily, sleep too much, sit in front of the TV and they often get cranky because they just don't know what to do with themselves. Providing a summer schedule for kids will help to keep them happy and entertained every day.

When planning a schedule, there are many things to keep in mind such as the child's age, his personal favorites, your budget and your own schedule. For example, you know you'll eat dinner at a certain time each night. Therefore, plan something for your kids that won't need your supervision while you're trying to make dinner.

Planning ahead and having a schedule to follow gives kids something to look forward to and it helps to keep them on track so they don't stray too far from their regular schedule. It also helps you keep a schedule that will allow you to get the things done that you need to take care of.

Here are a few tips for planning a summer schedule for kids:

  • Record all of the appointments that you have planned as far in advance as you can. This will help you keep all of your appointments and avoid scheduling a family event when you have business to take care of. Appointments include everything from doctor and dentist visits, to going to the hairdresser.
  • Make a list of the activities that your kids can do on their own and one for the things that you can do together. Some of your options include arts and crafts, sports, visiting the park, at-home karaoke and indoor rock climbing but there are many more things you can plan out with your kids.
  • Schedule the things they can do alone during the time you need to take care of business. Schedule the things you plan to do as a family or that your kids may need help with, when you know you'll have free time to help them. You should have a good balance of together time and independent activities.
  • Include snack and mealtime in your schedule along with time for your kids to relax, watch a movie and for spending time with friends.
  • Include educational time where your kids can continue learning throughout the summer. There are many fun ways to include learning into activities such as doing science projects or playing number and word games.
  • Don't forget to schedule a free day each week where your kids to pick what they want to do. This gives your kids time to relax, play with friends or do whatever they're in the mood for.

One of the most important things to remember about making a summer schedule for kids is variety. If you play sports on Monday, make Tuesday the arts and craft day and so forth. It's the change of pace that keeps kids excited and interested in the things you have planned for them.

If you follow the same routine everyday, they will get bored and not want to follow the schedule. It also helps to mix things up once in awhile by planning a surprise day where you can take them to the amusement park or the zoo.

Keeping children active both physically and mentally will ensure they have a great summer and it's so easy to do. It will also help you keep things organized and prevent your kids from picking up bad habits, like sleeping all day, which can make it difficult for them to get back into the routine of things when school starts back.

One last thing to keep in mind is that things don't always go according to plan and you can't let this upset you. Know that there will be times when you'll need to stray from the schedule due to unforeseen events and don't worry about it when it happens. Having your kids on a schedule they can follow most of time will be enough to make summer vacation a fun and enjoyable one for the whole family.
