Summer. It's the season where the blazing sun bakes the earth dry. The temperature's so hot and the atmosphere's so humid that people often complain about not being able to breathe in the summer heat. It's also during this time that our skin begins to act crazy. For those people who are thirty or above, they must pay extra attention to keep their skin moisturized and dewey during the summer. Often, over-dried and cracked skin is the biggest problem for women thirty and above.

Dryness will cause the following problems in women thirty and above:

1. Adult acne

Adult acne is the result of an unorganized lifestyle, which upsets the hormones in the body. If you add that to dried skin, it will cause the pores to ooze oil like crazy. Surprisingly, oily skin is often the result of not enough moisture in the skin!

2. Unhealthy skin tone

If your skin does not contain enough moisture, the texture of your skin becomes thick and rough, thus interfering with your skin's ability to block UV light. This will cause your skin look unhealthy and you become more susceptible to freckles. UV light, as well as an unorganized lifestyle, can cause your skin to become very rough.

3. Big pores

Often, the enlargement of pores in women thirty and above are due to two reasons: the sagging of skin around the pores and the dryness of skin. Dryness will cause the muscles around the pores to retract, thus making the pores even more obvious!

4. Dark freckles and wrinkles

Freckles are the result of too much exposure to UV light. If you skin is over-dried, its ability to protect itself from UV light decreases, thus causing melanin to gather in the skin and form freckles. Wrinkles are also the result of too much exposure to the sun and the dryness of skin.

People often say that thirty is the new twenty. However, if your skin looks wrinkled and cracked during the summer, it sure doesn't look like twenty! The steps below will help keep your skin nice and dewey during the intense heat of summer!

1. Not okay: using water that's too hot to wash your face.

What you should do: Normally, water around 37 degrees Celsius is the suitable temperature for washing your face.

Do not use water above that 37 degrees Celsius to wash your face because it will cause the moisture in your skin to evaporate! Furthermore, it's not a good idea to wash your face while taking a shower because often the water's too hot! Washing your face as the last part of your morning regime helps ensure that the moisture stays locked in your skin!

2. Not okay: Using facial masks for thirty minutes

What you should do: Leave your facial masks on for 10-15 minutes

You cannot use facial masks for an extended period of time at once. Usually 10-15 minutes is fine for facial masks. Water moves from places of high concentration to places of lower concentration. If you use your facial mask for too long, it'll absorb the moisture in your skin. Thus, keep your facial masks on for at most 15 minutes each day to help ensure that your skin is nice and moisturized!

3. Not okay: Not using moisturizer because you think your skin is too oily

What you should do: Even people with oily skin types need to use moisturizer

If you don't use moisturizer in the summer, the moisture in your skin will evaporate, leaving you with dry skin! Dry skin will actually cause your skin to produce more oil, not less! Pay special attention to the parts around your eyes and your mouth because those are the parts that get dried the easiest.

4. Not okay: The longer you wash your face, the cleaner it becomes

What you should do: You should not wash your face for too long. Rub the cleanser in your hands until it foams before applying to to your face.

Washing your face and taking off makeup can create stress for your skin. Applying foaming facial wash can help reduce the friction between your hands and your face and thus, lessening the stress. Start washing from the part of your face with the most oil but don't linger too long!

5. Not okay: The higher the spf of the sun block, the better it is

What you should do: You don't have to use sun blocks with overly high spf

Normally, for people who work in the office, a sunblock with spf 15-18 is fine. Using sun blocks with very high spf can suck the moisture out of your skin. Furthermore, you need to use stronger cleansers to wash off sun blocks with very high spf and that's not good for the skin. Rather than using sun blocks with very high spf, it's better to use a sun block with lower spf and just reapply the product several times a day.

Besides the tips above, women thirty and above need to make sure to drink plenty of water to maintain a healthy body and more radiant skin!
