Summer Soiree

Hummingbird Celebration at Dusk

Janice Meyer
The hummingbirds feed at twilight time,
quick wings abuzz in lithesome flight.
As two appear, they chit and chat, fly
from food to willow branch and back.
Are these games they play, a party of three?
An evening delight? A summer soiree?

A hummingbird celebration at dusk,
they dance on soft breeze, wings aflutter ---
then sip the sweet nectar-sprightly, brisk.
As patio lights begin to flicker,
nocturnal creatures, in glow, near glitter.

Oh tiny angels on sonic wing,
away to nest hidden deep in the vine.
Safe haven of rest, sleep all the night long,
return with the dawn, see darkness wane.

Now party again at eve' on this day,
enchant me with magic hum of your wings.
Two soar as one-blithe spirits, chipper, spry,
as creatures of night sing sweet evensongs.

At summer's end, take your leave, gone apace,
for southern strands, take flight on winds of peace

They are so tiny and quick that they are hard to see but God bless them for being there!

I love hummingbirds. I have nectar for them just past my front porch, but I have yet to see one this year. They're one of the many beautiful gifts from God. :)

Just beautiful! I absolutely LOVE hummingbirds. I sit on the porch and watch them, and they come up and fly just inches in front of my face. I sit very still, afraid that I may scare them away.

This is so wonderful. We have bird feeders and bird baths and humming bird feeders and believe it or not, these humming birds really surprised us, they stand their ground against the bigger birds. I had no clue. This is good thou Janice. As always friend.
