Summer Sojourn

Summer Sojourn

To run through summer fields again,
first dawn, a blithesome, happy child.
Before the time of golden grain,
when summer's new, soft nights so mild.

An old farm house stands stately, tall,
nestled among green rolling hills,
and giant Elms reach skyward, call
this wandr'er back where quaint wind mills

keep spinning as in days before.
A path beside a quiet pond,
where willows bend and weep once more,
and barefoot girl seeks days beyond.

By night, the fireflies' lanterns, small,
bare secrets out of dark 'til dawn.
Mid-summer's eve, as stars enthrall,
play touch tag on that age-old lawn.

This solemn sojourn hrough time's walls,
There probing cryptic truths of years
now gone - I search these hallowed halls,
behind each door find joy midst tears.
