Summer Time Rhyme

A New Jersey Summer

Israel Jimenez
April showers first, than the May flowers bloom
The sun beats down on the first day of June
Baseball, home runs. Basketball, fade away
Roller blades, skate parks. Memorial to Labor Day
Sunroof open, crank down the windows
I love the way my face feels every time the wind blows
Dude, where's my Ipod? Quick, put the music in
We all nod heads and sing choruses in unison
Spring love, summer lust. State trooper, buckle up
Barefoot, flip flops. Jump rope, double dutch
Pool parties, playgrounds, something new everyday
Hot dogs, cheeseburgers. Iced tea and lemonade
Take a trip to New York, honey roasted cashews
Head to the Jersey shore with money for a tattoo
Adults too can enjoy the season that the kid's love
Going to the beach with nothing but a pair of swim trunks
Tank tops, and ankle high socks for the sneakers
With the bass so loud that it pops out my speakers
Rum is what we buy.. Sailor Jerry's if you sip neat
But make sure we have Bacardi Limon for the mixed drinks
Jumping from the diving board, landing on a inner tube
Plus a few hand rolled cigars to get you in the mood
Short skirts, tube tops, bikinis for the females
Silky smooth sand, I put my ear into a sea shell
Embrace the Summer when it shows. Summer lives Summer goes
But one thing about Summer is the memories that Summers hold
Its greater than anything I can ink with the pen
And at the end I wave goodbye. And hope to see you again.
