Summer Time Siesta

James R. Ford

June 21 until September 21
we call the days Summer
hot nights and hotter days
high humidity with a foggy haze

the 4th of July is explosive and fun
barbecues and summer melons
thunder showers come and go
interrupting the heat of the day
with a lightning and thunder show

by the time August comes
we're ready for the Fall
those hot sticky nights
replaced by days shopping in the mall

On Labor Day, we celebrate with parades
kids are back at school to make the best grades
finally done heading for October
with cooler nights, the summer's now over.

Nicely done. I am ready for fall, but I would like to pass right through winter and go straight into spring. : )
